Spencer Pratt’s Lead Over Progressive Nithya Raman Nearly Vanishes After Latest Ballot Drop

Something does feel right in Los Angeles mayoral race.

The latest ballot drop in the Los Angeles mayoral race did not fall in Spencer Pratt’s favor.

On Saturday evening a new batch of votes were counted in LA’s mayoral race and the majority of the votes were counted for progressive Nithya Raman.

Before the latest ballot count, Pratt had a 20,000 vote lead on Raman but with the latest batch falling in Raman’s favor, Pratt now holds second place with only 7,494 votes.

The New York Post reported more details on the latest vote count:

Spencer Pratt’s once-comfortable lead in the Los Angeles mayoral primary has been slashed yet again — as a fresh batch of ballots delivered another major boost to progressive City Councilmember Nithya Raman in their race to the November runoff.

New results released Saturday show Pratt’s advantage over Raman shrinking to just 7,494 votes, down from more than 20,000 a day earlier. Roughly 78% of the ballots had been counted as of Saturday.

Raman picked up 23,514 votes in the latest count, more than double Pratt’s gain of 10,336. Her share of the vote jumped from 24.9% to 26.2%, while Pratt slipped from 28.2% to 27.3%.

The dramatic shift has thrown new uncertainty into what had appeared to be a clear path to the November runoff for the former reality TV star. Just days ago, Pratt held a commanding lead over Raman and looked firmly positioned to face incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in November.Bass remained in first place with 235,180 votes, or 34.8%. Pratt stood at 184,596 votes, while Raman surged to 177,102.

WTOP reported the U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles is probing the election:

The U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles said Friday it had opened “multiple election fraud investigations” related to California’s elections and sent a prosecutor to the county’s vote-counting center.

The developments came a day after President Donald Trump made baseless claims of mass fraud in California’s drawn-out vote count from Tuesday’s primary. Late-tallied Democratic-leaning mail ballots were continuing to eat into the vote totals for the president’s preferred candidates for governor and Los Angeles mayor.

The announcement by U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, Trump’s appointee as the top federal prosecutor in Los Angeles, and the visit to Los Angeles County’s ballot tabulation center marked an escalation in the president’s campaign against the Democratic-dominated state, whose notoriously prolonged vote count has been a magnet for election conspiracy theories. Trump weighed in again Friday while participating in a roundtable discussion in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, claiming without evidence that Democrats were rigging the election.

“You look at what’s happening — it’s getting tighter and tighter and tighter,” he said. “And the people who were supposed to win, bad things are happening. It’s a crooked state.”
