JD Vance Reveals Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Moved Usha to Have Another Baby

The tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk last September rocked our nation.

His death was utterly devastating, but it cannot be denied that God found a way to take this horrific incident and ultimately use it for good in many people’s lives.

In the wake of the assassination, lots of folks turned to Christ. We are now seeing a Christian revival take place across our nation, especially among the youth.

Additionally, many members of the Church were deeply impacted — including our vice president, JD Vance, who was a close friend of Charlie’s.

In Vance’s new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, he discusses in great detail about how the death of Charlie Kirk influenced his own views on faith and fatherhood.

On Friday, Vance published an essay in the Wall Street Journal adapted from his new book, which he shared with followers on X:

In that essay, Vance revealed how Kirk’s assassination moved his wife to want to have another baby.

For years, Usha had told him that she was done having children, despite his desire to have a fourth child.

But, that all changed when they buried Charlie.

Read this excerpt from the Wall Street Journal article:

In the months after Charlie’s death, I often picked up the phone to call him. I always hung up quickly, realizing before the first ring that my friend would not answer.
In Psalm 73, Asaph pleads with God, wondering why good men suffer while the wicked prosper. It is a tale as old as time: Bad things happen, and fate seems to mock us as a good man dies of cancer or is shot in the neck not even a month after his daughter celebrates her third birthday. And as all this tragedy unfolds, we are somehow meant to believe that an all-powerful God loves us and still allows this crap to happen.
As Christians, we are all, together, part of the same Church. Those who suffered and those who prospered. Those who voted for me and those who didn’t. The living and the dead. My grandmother and my father, though they disliked each other. Charlie Kirk and Pope Francis, despite their different views. Saint Augustine and the Dominican friar who baptized me. Me and my son.
I believe in that communion of saints, and I believe that although God sometimes rewards the wicked and punishes the good for reasons we can’t possibly understand, He also casts upon us little rays of light even in the darkest moments.
And so it was for me. As my wife held Charlie Kirk’s widow on the first day of her terrible sorrow, Erika told Usha between sobs that she regretted having only two kids with Charlie.
For years I had asked Usha to have another baby, and for years she had told me she was done—especially now that public service had elevated us into the national spotlight.
But something changed for Usha, and not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy.
One life was stolen from us, but another was given.
I don’t know why God does things like this. But I am grateful to Him that there will soon be another source of joy in our lives.
Another person added to the communion of our family and hopefully to that of the Church. Another person to whom I will sing, “Jesus loves me, this I know.” Another beautiful soul to wonder at, and fall in love with, God’s beautiful creation.

As you probably know, JD and Usha Vance are expecting their fourth child — a baby boy — very soon. Her due date is in late July.

Vance’s story reminds us how powerful the Lord is.

We may not understand why God’s Will happens the way it does, especially when terrible things happen.

But, we know that He is able to take bad things and use them for good.

Romans 8:28 says:

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

If you want to read Vance’s full book, it will be released on June 16th.
