In ordinary times, receiving an invitation to introduce the president of the United States would be a no-brainer regardless of political affiliation.
But in today’s deeply divided culture, leftists are quick to demonize anyone who appears in the same ZIP code as President Donald Trump.
Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart provided a glaring example of this sad reality when he was pilloried in the press and on social media for daring to introduce Trump at a recent event.
As The Hill reported, he finally issued a statement addressing the criticism:
“Obviously, this was a unique opportunity. Being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States, my thinking was pretty simple, in the fact of, I’ve always loved this country,” Dart told reporters. “I have extended family members who have fought in wars. I have two uncles who have retired from the Air Force Academy and served themselves.”
“I even have a great-grandfather who served as the Secretary of the Treasury at some point,” he continued. “The president position has always been a position that I have a lot of respect in, regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party.”
Dart added, “My intentions were just that.”
His appearance at the May 22 rally, led by Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), sparked criticism from some commentators and prompted discussion within the Giants locker room, thrusting the young quarterback into a national debate over the intersection of sports and politics.
Although even some of his fellow NFL players were among those who publicly rebuked him, Dart received support and words of encouragement from countless social media users:
You can support or oppose a politician, but respecting the office of the President shouldn't be controversial.

People on the Left feel like they have the right to tell other people how to think.
We have freedom of expression in this country, the people who hate that aren't Americans and they don't belong in our country.

Giants linebacker Abdul Carter, who attracted his own criticism for lashing out at Dart after the appearance alongside Trump, has since sought to downplay any rumors of a locker room rift, as ESPN reported:
Dart, the Giants’ second-year starter, introduced President Donald Trump at a pep rally Friday at Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York. They were at an event for New York Rep. Mike Lawler about 35 miles northwest of New York City.
ADVERTISEMENT“Look, Big Blue Nation, it’s a pleasure to be here. I’ve got to start this off with a ‘Go Big Blue.’ I’d love if you all would follow with me,” Dart said before leading the crowd in a chant.
“What an honor, what a privilege it is to be here. And without further ado, I’m grateful, I’m honored, I’m pleasured to introduce the 45th and 47th president of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump.”
Dart’s appearance at the event prompted Carter, the second-year outside linebacker, to respond on social media early Saturday.
“Thought this s— was AI, what we doing man,” Carter wrote on X.
After the post sparked considerable reaction, Carter followed up later in the day.
“Me and JD6 are good! We spoke earlier as Men,” Carter wrote on X. “Yall can keep yall narratives.”
