Of all the changes ushered thus far under President Donald Trump’s second term, perhaps the most immediately obvious was a cultural shift away from the woke ideology that dominated the Biden era.
That means the Democratic Party is wising up to the trend, and many rising leftist stars are distancing themselves from the divisive rhetoric that so many Americans found objectionable.
When one such figure, US Senate candidate James Talarico of Texas, acknowledged that he regrets some of his prior comments, even a top adviser to the Biden White House was willing to publicly denounce the “peak woke” agenda.
As The Hill reported:
“I think it’s great that Talarico is calling some of his high-net-woke comments cringe,” Yemisi Egbewole wrote in a post on the social platform X in response to a CBS News interview with Talarico. “Honestly, more young people running for office are probably going to have to do this. Peak woke got weird. It’s okay to say that!”
Talarico, the Democratic nominee for Senate in the Lone Star State, admitted in an interview that he regretted some of his past comments, including referring to God as nonbinary.
“I was being intentionally provocative with that statement,” he said in response to GOP backlash. “There are statements that I’ve made that I certainly regret.”
Of course, the political expediency in such statements is obvious, but it’s still a clear indicator that Democrats know Americans have backed away from some of the extremists positions that proliferated in throughout the early 2020s.
And it was also evidence that Talarico’s opponents had been effective in bringing up his prior comments:
What is a reprobate? Listen to Talarico.

James Talarico claims Republicans will "dig up" his old statements and twist them out of context.
We didn't say "God is nonbinary," he did.
We didn't say atheists are "more Christ-like," he did.
We didn't say transgenders need "abortion care," he did.Talarico is too weird,… pic.twitter.com/sFj9NDnRcC

There is no interpretation of the Bible that can support the Gospel of James Talarico
God isn’t gender nonbinary
Climate alarmism isn’t a biblical mandate
It’s time for Republicans to unite behind Ken Paxton, who won tonight’s runoff in Texas

The Washington Examiner provided coverage of a GOP campaign against Talarico that centers on his “woke” past:
The ad is a compiled video of Talarico’s past posts and bits from his campaign speeches with comments calling him a “Texas trailblazer” and referring to him as “he, its, their.”
ADVERTISEMENTThe ad further criticizes Talarico with comments such as “bearing the cross of white skin and unambiguous masculinity” and “straight from Revelations in the woke James bible,” in response to Talarico’s saying “there are many more than two biological sexes. In fact, there are six.”
Here’s a clip of Talarico’s most recent remarks:
