When Democratic lawmakers can’t make a convincing argument using the facts, they often attempt to tap into voters’ feelings by participating in a protest movement.
That has been a common occurrence thus far in President Donald Trump’s second term, particularly when ICE agents are tasked with upholding the nation’s immigration laws.
In some cases, elected officials have complained that they were caught in the crossfire, but that’s not enough to earn the sympathy of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.
As The Hill reported:
Mullin was responding to a Tuesday post on the social platform X from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who wrote, “When even U.S. Senators are targeted, every American should understand: no one is safe from ICE’s abuses.”
“It’s why I’m fighting tooth-and-nail against additional funds for Trump’s rogue police forces,” he added.
Schumer’s post featured photos of two separate incidents involving Sens. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.).
Mullin responded to Schumer on X a few hours later, saying he had “zero respect for career liberal politicians like Chuck Schumer (who has never held a job outside of politics) who openly demonize law enforcement.”
The most recent of those two cases has sparked significant social media discussion this week:
Democrat Senator Andy Kim went to protect criminal illegals just to get pepper sprayed by ICE 😂
It's hilarious how much boba libs think they can obstruct law enforcement with impunity just to FAFO pic.twitter.com/vjNfTsfTG3

The seditionist got off easy. He should be thankful.

What did Andy Kim think? That he wasn't going to get pepper sprayed when he put himself between the radical folks he was supporting against ICE?
Just like the guy in the video, will these Liberals finally learn their lesson or keep doing dumb stuff like this? https://t.co/HQOfBMe9yv pic.twitter.com/2UAlYswRDu

The governor of New Jersey has also been an active participant in that state’s anti-ICE protests, as Fox News reported:
Protesters attempted to form a human chain outside the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill attempted to gain access to the building but was refused entry, according to local reports.
“My request for access to Delaney Hall was formally denied this morning, raising serious questions about what they are trying to hide from public view,” Sherrill said, according to Patch.
“I have long opposed private detention facilities and will continue to advocate for the closure of Delaney Hall and against any expansion of mass detention facilities in New Jersey, like the proposed facility in Roxbury,” the governor added.
Some protesters threw water and yelled at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who were seen detaining several demonstrators, WPIX-TV reported.
Protesters and onlookers were heard screaming at ICE agents, who ordered the crowd to move to a grassy area off the road. Agents and protesters stood face-to-face before the situation calmed down.
And here’s what Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld had to add:
🚨 HOLY CRAP! Greg Gutfeld just went BERSERK on Sen. Andy Kim (D) using Memorial Day to protest for illegals in ICE custody
"Do I CARE that Andy Kim got pepper sprayed? NO, I don't care!"
"A Veteran was MURDERED a few days ago. You didn't give 2 TURDS about THAT. I don't care… pic.twitter.com/BIAyven7gu
