It’s bad enough Democrats are willing to shut the government down over and over again.
Unsurprisingly at this point, they don’t mind if DHS & ICE go unfunded.
But now it appears Senate Republicans are purposefully allowing the lack of funding to continue — in order to lash out politically against President Trump.
I can barely believe I just wrote that sentence without any hesitation or worry that I’m stretching the truth to say it.
Then again… what’s new???
You might be tempted to imagine that’s just the mainstream-lamestream spin concocted for public consumption by the anti-Trump media.
They do that, you know; anytime they can, to create the smoke and mirrors mirage of ‘internal fracturing’ and bickering.
The problem is — judging by their own words — the Senate GOP actually did just lash out at President Trump by LEAVING ICE UNFUNDED, all because they don’t like the heat he’s putting on them.
Unbelievable? It should be. But here’s the story.
The US Senate and their GOP majority just closed up shop in what is being described as a ‘revolt’ aimed directly at President Trump.
They’re blaming him for — what — putting their feet to the fire?
I’m going with “That’s Exactly What Happened” for $1,000.
Thune literally complained that things just got too complicated this week.
Here’s a quick video breakdown of the basics covering the behind-the-scenes by Fox News:
🚨 IT’S OFFICIAL: Senate Republicans will now MISS President Trump’s June 1 deadline to pass ICE and CBP funding, as John Thune decides to RECESS the Senate until NEXT MONTH
Thune is a FAILURE.
President Trump is NOT going to be happy about this. Time to remove Thune! pic.twitter.com/EhX6CrAZOO

So the bill that would have funded ICE…
Along with the anti-weaponization fund backed by President Trump…
Sits, collecting dust — as our glorious elected officials head for vacation, according to this from Reuters:
U.S. Senate Republicans abandoned plans to vote on funding for immigration enforcement on Thursday in a revolt against one of President Donald Trump’s priorities: a $1.8 billion fund for victims of government “weaponization,” including those convicted of violent crimes during the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
The Senate walked away from a $72 billion bill funding Trump’s massive migrant deportation led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, delaying the vote at least until June, when lawmakers return from a one-week Memorial Day holiday recess.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune had sought to focus the legislation narrowly to secure the money intended to fund ICE and Border Patrol through the end of Trump’s presidency.
“It was something that was supposed to be very narrow, targeted, focused, clean, straightforward, and it got a little bit more complicated this week,” Thune said, expressing his frustration. “It makes everything way harder than it should be.”
ADVERTISEMENTEmotions were so raw that a planned White House meeting including Trump, Senate Republicans and House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson was canceled, according to a separate source familiar with the arrangement. (Emphasis added.)
Again — you might be tempted to think that the situation is far more complex; which is the excuse Thune TRIED to lean upon.
But he was asked directly if the decision to push off the vote was in response to President Trump:
Thune asked if Senate Rs are responding to politics — ie, Trump endorsements and snubs this week
“It’s hard to divorce anything that happens here from what’s happening in political atmosphere around us,” Thune said. “You can’t disconnect those things.”

Benny Johnson dug up a classic social media post from Sen. Thune’s not-so-distant past.
It may be fitting to include that bombshell statement from the Senate Majority Leader in this story…
Along with Benny Johnson’s personal remarks — in light of today’s abject failure of Republicans in the Senate to DO THEIR JOB:
John Thune has FAILED on the SAVE America Act, FAILED on funding ICE and CBP and FAILED to enact Trump’s mandate that 77 Million people voted for.
He told us exactly how he really feels about Trump from the start.
America deserves a leader in the Senate who gets things done. pic.twitter.com/varm4pWhXm

It’s not every day that I quote the likes of CBS News on something political.
But I’m going to use their reporting today, just to highlight the BONE that Senate Republicans just threw the mainstream media in trying to make President Trump appear weak.
Like I said, the left-leaning mainstream outlets LOVE to twist any and every situation to make President Trump look bad.
And I don’t doubt the intended slant of this next excerpt which I’m going to share… from CBS News.
Unfortunately, there is no slant needed; Thune admitted what happened today was partly the result of Senate Republicans showing their frustration with President Trump!
And then… the Senate Majority Leader went on to openly throw the White House under the proverbial bus when questioned about what went wrong with this vote, as was reported by the completely non-biased and always straight-shooting (yes… my sarcasm, again) CBS News:
House leaders quickly canceled their plans to remain in town after Thursday’s votes, and a meeting between Speaker Mike Johnson and the president was called off, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The developments mean lawmakers will all but certainly miss a deadline imposed by Mr. Trump to get the reconciliation bill on his desk by June 1. The legislation, which would fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol for three years, originated from the shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year. Democratic opposition to funding the agencies prompted Republicans to pursue the bill via reconciliation, which doesn’t require Democratic votes in the Senate.
Asked whether that dynamic played a role in Thursday’s scrapped plans, Thune said that “it’s hard to divorce anything that happens here from what’s happening in the political atmosphere around us.”
The majority leader said “it would have been nice” if the White House consulted Senate Republicans on the DOJ fund, but he called it “water under the bridge now.”
“You play the hand you’re dealt, and we’ll sort it out from here,” he said. “But, you know, obviously it became a more complicated and bumpy path than we had hoped for.” (Emphasis added.)
Remember when just a few weeks ago…
Thune convened the Senate in the dead of night with only a handful of Senators even around, and essentially handed Chuck Schumer the power to pass his own funding bill?
And then left — keeping President Trump from making recess appointments?
All while blaming Democrats:
🚨🚨John Thune will be sending the Senate home EARLY, and they’ll stay home until JUNE.
No funding for ICE or CBP, and no action on the SAVE America Act until at least next month.

There’s a ton of blame to go around for the Democrats on this, to be sure. (Don’t think I’m letting them off the hook, here just because I’m calling Sen. Thune out.)
But there is plenty of that blame right in Thune’s lap, too.
For a little color on exactly how Sen. Thune feels about President Trump, I want to close out this story with a short clip — from just two days ago.
This isn’t from years ago; this was THIS WEEK.
Here’s Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune letting his true (CURRENT) feelings about President Trump show:
If that’s not plain old-fashioned DISGUST dripping from the Senator’s words and showing plainly on his face — I don’t know what else to call it.
And all because he can’t “control what the President does”.
Careful there, Senator — your petty arrogance might be showing.
On second thought…
Thanks for making your true loyalties unquestionably obvious.
You might want to ask if Cornyn will hold the door for you on his way out.
