Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has submitted her resignation from President Trump’s Cabinet, effective June 30, 2026.
The reason is heartbreaking.
Gabbard’s husband, Abraham, has been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.
She told President Trump during an Oval Office meeting Friday that she needs to step away from public service to be by her husband’s side during the fight ahead.
Gabbard thanked President Trump and the American people for the honor of serving as DNI for the past year and a half.
Fox News first reported the resignation and obtained Gabbard’s letter:
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is resigning to support her husband Abraham after his diagnosis with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. She notified President Trump during an Oval Office meeting Friday, and her final day at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is expected to be June 30, 2026.
In her formal resignation letter, Gabbard thanked President Trump for trusting her to lead ODNI for the last year and a half. She wrote that Abraham faces major challenges in the weeks and months ahead, and that she must step away from public service to stand by him and fully support him through the battle.
Her letter also described Abraham as her rock throughout eleven years of marriage, including her deployment to East Africa, multiple political campaigns, and her service as DNI. She said she could not in good conscience ask him to face the fight alone while she continued in such a demanding position.
Gabbard also committed to a smooth transition so President Trump and his team would not lose leadership momentum at ODNI. She closed by saying she would remain grateful to the American people for the honor of serving the nation as Director of National Intelligence.
Gabbard posted her own statement on X shortly after the news broke:
I am deeply grateful for the trust President Trump placed in me and for the opportunity to lead @ODNIgov for the last year and a half.

Gabbard’s departure also closes out a consequential ODNI tenure.
As DNI, she pushed transparency inside the intelligence community, declassified more than half a million pages of government records, dismantled DEI programs, and created a Weaponization Working Group aimed at exposing Biden-era abuses.
The news spread quickly across conservative media circles, with many thanking Gabbard for her service and praying for her family.
Eric Daugherty shared the Fox clip and reaction here:

This is one of those moments where politics takes a back seat.
A wife is stepping away from one of the most powerful posts in government to care for her husband through the hardest battle of his life.
Gabbard served this country in uniform, in Congress, and as President Trump’s intelligence chief.
Please keep Tulsi Gabbard, Abraham, and their family in your prayers.
