Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis doesn’t mess around!
Today, he had Democrat state Rep. Angie Nixon arrested after she staged an illegal “sit-in” (all by herself) outside of his office to protest the state’s new, fair Congressional map.
News4Jax reported:
Rep. Angie Nixon, D-Jacksonville, was arrested Friday evening by Capitol Police after about five hours of staging a sit-in outside Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office.
ADVERTISEMENTShe began her protest around noon, hoping to speak with a DeSantis staff member to discuss affordability in Florida. Nixon said two protesters who were with her at the time were arrested. At the time of her arrest, five supporters and a group of media members were told to leave the Capitol.
“I’m here because we have continually failed to do the business of the people in this legislative body, in this governor’s office,” she told the News Service of Florida before her arrest. “I’m here because they, instead of addressing the rising costs and the fact that people can no longer to afford to be alive, to stay in Florida … they instead want to rid maps in support of what Donald Trump wants.
At the time of her arrest it was unclear what charges she would face or where should would be taken.
If Rep. Nixon’s name sounds familiar, it’s probably because this is the same lawmaker who pulled out a pink bullhorn and started shouting at people when the map passed in the Florida House.

I could be wrong, but don’t “sit-ins” usually require more than just a couple people to make any sort of impact?
This just comes across as extremely pathetic.
Gov. DeSantis’ Chief of Staff Jason Weida confirmed that she was later arrested over this little stunt:

Rep. Angie Nixon is currently running for the U.S. Senate (good luck with that!)
This isn’t the first time she has gotten into trouble recently.
On Thursday, she was formally reprimanded by the House Rules and Ethics Committee over her megaphone incident on the House floor when the map passed.
First Coast News via Yahoo News has more:
The House Rules and Ethics Committee voted to formally reprimand Nixon following her use of a megaphone on the House floor while lawmakers were voting on new congressional district maps. Nixon called the redistricting a ‘slap in the face’ to minority communities and defended her actions at the time.
“They want to talk about I was lacking decorum, but what good is decorum if democracy is falling and they’re violating the Constitution and passing illegal maps,” Nixon previously told First Coast News.
Thursday’s meeting lasted less than 15 minutes with little debate among committee members. Fleming Island Republican and committee chair Rep. Sam Garrison called the reprimand a ‘serious’ and ‘measured’ action.
“I believe a reprimand is both appropriate and necessary. No one should take pleasure in reprimanding a fellow member. It stinks. I hate it. But when the choice is protecting the house and doing something unpleasant that I’d rather not deal with, my responsibility as chair is to protect the house,” Garrison explained.
The reprimand states Nixon specifically violated three House rules related to addressing the House, using props, and disrupting official legislative business. Nixon was not allowed to speak before the committee, though she did provide a written statement.
