A North Carolina official is facing the ire of one mother while receiving praise from countless others after she delivered a reality check to one young constituent.
Reports indicate a fourth-grade student sent US Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) a letter containing a mix of environmental concerns that some speculate didn’t originate entirely in his mind.
The Daily Caller provided this report:
The fourth grader’s essay begins: “Boom 6.5 million people dead, glaciers gone, weather worse! That’s the effect if pollution continues, air pollution kills 6.5 million people worldwide and pollution in the future would get rid of ice and the weather would get stronger. But electric cars produce less pollution so that could not happen and the future could be better. The federal government should give a $5,000 tax rebate for all new electric car purchases.”
ADVERTISEMENTThe fourth grader commends electric cars for producing “less pollution which is better for our daily life and our world. If more electric cars were sold the world could get better and humans could have a better life with less problems and scientists would have to do less work to stop pollution.”
He concludes: “Maybe there is still a chance for 6.5 million people to not die anymore and for the weather to get better just maybe glaciers stop melting.”
“The response back was so NOT OK,” said Mango, attaching a copy of Foxx’s alleged response.
Foxx began by noting the importance of hearing from constituents, saying she and the child “agree about the importance of fostering innovation and American competition in the automobile industry,” according to Mango.
Foxx then politely rebuked the idea that “one-size-fits-all government regulations” are the “best solution to environmental problems,” instead arguing in favor of the free market.
“What many folks do not realize is that the money that ‘comes from the federal government actually comes from ordinary citizens who pay taxes to support that government. Therefore, your request that ‘the federal government should give a $5,000 tax rebate for all new electric car purchases’ means that the federal government must take that money out of the pockets of hardworking people who may not have the means to buy an electric vehicle in the first place,” Foxx argued, according to the letter shared by Mango.
Foxx reportedly linked to six articles explaining the “disastrous record of policies enacted to address ‘climate change,’” including pieces from the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, and National Review.
Foxx went on from there, and many social media users were receptive to her blunt approach to setting the kid (and his mother) straight:
That’s my Rep🙌🏻 @virginiafoxx 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

The GOP congresswoman had enough respect for the student to tell the truth. Harsh maybe. Mom needs to grow up and teach her son everyone won't agree with him or her. 🙄

Nothing wrong with her response. The mother's response is over the top – did she help write the essay?

Here’s what the New York Post added:
Foxx is seeking re-election for a whopping 12th term in Congress. She is endorsed by President Trump.
“A close read of the letter from Rep. Foxx, coupled with an understanding of Rep. Foxx’s record of holding educational systems to account, simply reveals a concern for indoctrination stemming from those responsible for educating students,” a spokesperson for her office said.
“The motives of the individual student who wrote the letter to Rep. Foxx were never being impugned — not in the slightest.”
