WATCH: Small Plane Crashes Into Residential Building

The airplane, which had four occupants, crashed into a building on Monday in ​the city ​of Belo Horizonte, southeastern Brazil.

Reuters confirmed:

The ⁠pilot and co-pilot died, while the ​remaining passengers ​were ⁠in serious condition, ​the fire ​department ⁠added.

“A single-engine EMB-721C aircraft (1979 model) crashes into a building in a residential area in the Northeast region of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where four people were being transported on 04 May; according to a initial information,” aviation news page FL360aero wrote.

“The plane struck a building of approximately three stories before crashing in the property’s parking area,” it added.

A single-engine light aircraft crashed into a residential building in Brazil's Northeast Region of Belo Horizonte on Monday.

The aircraft left Pampulha Airport, also in the capital of Minas Gerais.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene of the crash at 12.25pm.

The pilot had reported to the Pampulha Airport control tower that he was having difficulties taking off.

Lieutenant Raul of the Fire Department said: “It [the aircraft] hit between the third and fourth floors, in the stairwell.

“If it had hit the sides, it could have struck some residences; those apartments were occupied.

“What we saw was the structure of the aircraft projected inside the stairwell, without hitting any other apartments.”

Avani Soares, who lives in the building which was hit by the aircraft said she thought “the world had ended”.

She told Globo: “Everything went dark, a lot of debris fell, and I thought, ‘The world has ended.’

“On the other floor, there were people screaming for help. I didn’t know what to do.”

Ms Soares added: “Then I ran to the window because it had gone completely dark.

“Then I saw it and said, ‘It can’t be, a plane.’ There was a strong smell of fuel.

“I just grabbed my phone and glasses, and went downstairs, I didn’t grab anything else.”
