NRA Brushes Off Rumors Of A Rift After President Trump Skips Second Consecutive Convention

Few public policy groups have had the sort of outsized political influence in DC that the National Rifle Association has enjoyed across the establishment Republican Party over the past several generations.

But with President Donald Trump deciding for a second year in a row to decline an invitation to the NRA’s annual convention, some pundits are starting to mutter aloud that the organization doesn’t have the sway it once did.

Those rumors have clearly caught up to NRA officials themselves, prompting the gun-rights group to push back against the narrative, as The Hill reported:

The move marks his second consecutive absence from the NRA’s annual meeting — held this year on April 16-19 in Houston, Texas — after attending every convention since 2015.
