Kamala Harris just tried to rebrand herself as a champion of working Americans struggling at the pump.
It didn’t go well.
The former vice president posted a video on Wednesday from a gas station in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she looked straight into the camera and blamed President Trump for rising gas prices. She called the situation in Iran “Trump’s war of choice” and said American families are the ones paying for it.
There’s just one problem. People remember what she said when gas prices were even HIGHER under her watch.
Here’s her post:
Here in North Carolina and around the country, gas prices are too high. This is a direct result of Donald Trump’s war of choice in Iran, and the American people are paying the price. pic.twitter.com/gsynOMKqC7

The national average right now sits at about $4.09 a gallon, according to AAA. That’s real money for real families. Nobody’s arguing that.
But here’s where Harris loses all credibility on this issue. Back in 2022, when gas prices hit a record $5.01 per gallon under the Biden-Harris administration, she had a very different take. She told Americans that high gas prices were simply “a price to pay for democracy” in reference to the situation in Ukraine.
The internet didn’t forget:

So when gas was over five dollars a gallon on her watch, Americans just had to deal with it. But at $4.09 under President Trump, suddenly it’s a national emergency worth filming a gas station video over.
And it gets better. People were quick to point out that Harris didn’t film her little video in her home state of California, where gas taxes make the prices significantly worse. She went to North Carolina instead, where the numbers on the sign behind her looked a lot friendlier.
I like how she went to a gas station not in CA so as to not highlight how much more expensive the taxes make gas there than everywhere else. https://t.co/12w2bklnBd

Fox News reported on the backlash:
White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers dismissed Harris’s criticism, noting the Biden-Harris administration caused electricity prices to surge over 30 percent and gas to reach $5 nationally within one year.
Rogers credited Trump with previously achieving multi-year lows in energy costs during his first term.
Republican Senator Mike Lee countered that the prior administration actively discouraged gasoline and diesel production throughout their entire four years in office.
The US Oil and Gas Association also responded directly to Harris’s video. They reminded her that she co-sponsored the Green New Deal as a senator, pushed to ban fracking, and repeatedly sued oil and gas producers when she was California’s attorney general.
Breitbart laid out the numbers:
On Thursday, the national gas price average clocked in around $4.093 for regular unleaded, up from the $3.169 price average one year ago.
Under the Biden-Harris administration, the national gas price average hit a record of $5.016 on June 14, 2022. Diesel peaked even higher at $5.816 per gallon just days later on June 19, 2022.
The Biden-Harris administration had previously axed oil pipelines and discouraged domestic energy production, policies critics say contributed directly to those historic prices.
Harris also reportedly indicated she’s open to a 2028 presidential run when asked about it by Al Sharpton. Which probably explains the gas station video a lot more than any genuine concern about fuel costs.
The math is simple. $5.01 a gallon under Harris? “A price to pay for democracy.” $4.09 a gallon under Trump? A national outrage requiring an emergency video.
Americans aren’t buying it.
