Amid the Iran war, President Trump is seriously weighing the possibility of pulling the United States out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO.)
In an interview with U.K. outlet The Telegraph, President Trump made it very clear that it might be time for the U.S. to part ways with NATO.
Take a look:

Backup here if needed:
This comes after NATO allies have been refusing President Trump’s calls to assist with Iran — especially with regards to getting the Strait of Hormuz, which many NATO countries rely on, re-opened.
Here’s more from the Telegraph report:
Donald Trump has told The Telegraph he is strongly considering pulling the United States out of Nato after it failed to join his war on Iran.
The US president labelled the alliance a “paper tiger” and said removing America from the defence treaty was now “beyond reconsideration”.
It is the strongest sign yet that the White House no longer regards Europe as a reliable defence partner following the rejection of Mr Trump’s demand that allies send warships to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Mr Trump was asked if he would reconsider the US’s membership of Nato after the conflict.
He replied: “Oh yes, I would say [it’s] beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by Nato. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way.”
Nato partners have been reluctant to help reopen the strait, through which 20 per cent of the world’s oil typically travels. Tehran has effectively closed the strait for weeks, sending global oil and gas prices spiralling while threatening a global recession.
ADVERTISEMENTMr Trump added: “Beyond not being there, it was actually hard to believe. And I didn’t do a big sale. I just said, ‘Hey’, you know, I didn’t insist too much. I just think it should be automatic.
“We’ve been there automatically, including Ukraine. Ukraine wasn’t our problem. It was a test, and we were there for them, and we would always have been there for them. They weren’t there for us.”
While delivering remarks today, President Trump put NATO on notice…
Interestingly, he implied that he only asked them to help to test our “allies” and “see what they’d do.”
Watch this:
.@POTUS on Iran: "We've had some very good allies over there. We've had some very bad allies in NATO… we had some asks, and you know, we spend trillions of dollars on NATO… to be honest, I was really asking because I wanted to see what they'd do." pic.twitter.com/104JCHTvIg

President Trump also confirmed that he is considering leaving NATO to Reuters:
He said he was “absolutely” considering withdrawing the United States from NATO, a treaty organization ratified by the U.S. Senate in 1949. Trump has flirted with a withdrawal in the past and has successfully pressured NATO members to increase their defense spending.“They haven’t been friends when we needed them,” Trump said. “We’ve never asked them for much … it’s a one-way street.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed President Trump’s sentiment during a Tuesday appearance on Fox News.
Calling NATO a “one-way street,” Rubio called into question why the United States should send support and funds to “allies” who give nothing back.
Watch here:
SECRETARY RUBIO: Why are we in NATO? You have to ask that question. Why do we send trillions of dollars and have all of these American forces stationed in the region, if in our time of need, we won't be allowed to use those bases? pic.twitter.com/DdYahXhli0

Many patriots agree that President Trump should pull the plug on NATO membership.
Take a look at a couple of these responses:

As for the practical aspect, leaving NATO may require Congressional approval, under a law passed in 2023.
CBS News explained the process:
NATO’s Article 13 states that any member country may withdraw one year after providing a “notice of denunciation” to the U.S. government. But Congress approved legislation in 2023 aimed at preventing a president from unilaterally moving to leave NATO. At the time, lawmakers expressed concern that Mr. Trump could attempt to withdraw the U.S. from the alliance if he returned to office.
Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia and Rubio were the lead sponsors of the provision, which was included in the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2024 and signed by President Joe Biden.
The law states that the president “shall not suspend, terminate, denounce, or withdraw the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty, done at Washington, DC, April 4, 1949, except by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, provided that two-thirds of the Senators present concur, or pursuant to an Act of Congress.”
What are your thoughts?
Would you support leaving NATO?
