WATCH HERE: Australian Sky Turn Blood-Red

This look likes a scene from an apocalyptic movie.

The skies in Western Australia turned blood-red as Tropical Cyclone Narelle made its way to the Land Down Under.

Videos on Facebook and X show the skies in Denham, Australia, turning completely red, causing panic among some residents.

Per The New York Times:

Videos and images of a fiery red sky over Western Australia looked like something from an apocalyptic or science fiction movie.

At the Shark Bay Caravan Park in Denham, the sky glowed bright red on Friday and drew out curious residents to gaze at the dazzling display, according to a video shared by the park.

“Incredibly eerie outside and everything is covered in dust,” the park said on Facebook.

The color change took place “as dust filled the air ahead of Tropical Cyclone Narelle,” according to AccuWeather, the American company that provides global commercial weather forecasting services. It added, “No, that’s not a filter!”

The National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service explained that Australia’s dry environment plays a role in the appearance of red skies.

The service explained that the dry climate causes rocks to “rust,” and that when they break apart due to strong winds, the dust turns the atmosphere red.

This isn’t the first time the skies have turned red in Australia.

In 2020, the skies turned red in Southeast Australia after major bushfires broke out.
