JUST IN: Putin Says Russia is Ready to Contribute $1 BILLION to Join President Trump’s Board of Peace

Russian President Vladimir Putin just responded to President Trump’s offer to join his new Board of Peace.

And, it looks like he’s accepted!

Putin says that Russia is ready to donate $1 billion from frozen assets for membership after the war with Ukraine is over.

President Trump is asking countries who want to join the board to pay a $1 billion permanent (rather than 3-year) membership.

The money will be used to re-build the Gaza strip, and Putin seems ready to contribute.

Earlier today, during his speech in Davos, President Trump announced that Putin had accepted his invitation to join the board.

Per Reuters:

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had accepted his invitation to join Trump’s Board of Peace initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts, a statement that Putin quickly countered, saying that the invitation was only under consideration.
“He was invited. He’s accepted,” Trump told reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland after meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte.

Ukrainian President Zelensky was also invited to join the Board of Peace.

But, based on Zelensky’s comments about the invitation, it looks like Ukraine will most likely not accept.

Barron’s shared Zelensky’s response:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday he had been invited to join US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” but could not envisage working there alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We did receive the invitation; our diplomats are working on it,” Zelensky told reporters, adding however that: “It’s still very hard for me to imagine how we and Russia could be together in any kind of council.”

BREAKING: ZELENSKYY RECEIVED AN INVITATION FROM TRUMP TO BE A MEMBER OF A BOARD OF PEACE, BUT HE SAID HE DOESN’T SEE HIMSELF ON ANY BOARD TOGETHER WITH RUSSIA AND LUKASHENKO, BECAUSE IN REALITY – THEY ARE ON A BOARD OF WAR

“We received an invitation. Diplomats are working on this invitation. I think that, honestly speaking… Russia is our enemy. Belarus is their ally. Honestly, it’s very hard for me to imagine how we could sit with Russia in any council. And this isn’t about the peace council. Russia stands for war, and Belarus with them, specifically the Lukashenko regime”, – Zelenskyy on Jan 20

In all, President Trump and his team have invited around 50 countries to join the Board of Peace.

France, Norway, and Sweden have all declined.

CBS News reported on who has accepted, so far:

As many as 25 countries have signed on to join President Trump’s “Board of Peace” for Gaza, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff says.

But sources familiar with the discussions told CBS News not all have said so publicly.

“I think we have north of 20, maybe 25 world leaders who have already accepted,” Witkoff said in an interview on CNBC on Wednesday.

Israel, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Kosovo, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Morocco, Hungary and Canada are among the nations that have announced they’re accepting Mr. Trump’s invitation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office did so Wednesday, as did Egypt’s foreign ministry.

As the president envisions it, the group would be comprised of world leaders, with him as its chairman. Countries can contribute $1 billion to become permanent members, rather than holding a typical three-year membership, the White House said, although Canada has said it won’t pay to join.

Some countries will contribute far less, possibly around $20 million, one of the sources said.

A White House official told CBS News over the weekend that “virtually every dollar” raised would be spent on the board’s mandate in Gaza. Fundraising to rebuild Gaza will be a separate effort, one U.S. official said.

Another U.S. official told CBS News the president wants a signing ceremony for the board at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, and has been contemplating whether the board’s work should extend beyond Gaza, and perhaps be a rival to the United Nations.
