BREAKING: Suspect Captured, ID’d as FOREIGN NATIONAL Following Attack in DC

As Kaley reported earlier, two National Guard soldiers were shot a little while ago near the White House in a brazen attack.

The primary bit of information I want to bring you in this story is that a suspect HAS BEEN SUBDUED and is currently in custody.

[UPDATE: As I went to press with this story… information is breaking that he has also been identified.  I will add that breaking update down below!]

I also want to bring you a bit of really good news before we get to that.

The details in the immediate aftermath of that AMBUSH-STYLE ATTACK have been sketchy, including an early report by the Governor of West Virginia that both soldiers had died.

That report, thankfully, appears at the moment to be premature, as the Governor quickly pointed out he was receiving conflicting information.

FBI Director Kash Patel seemed to confirm that both soldiers were currently alive as well, in this clip from a briefing a short time ago:

So that’s something to pray for, hoping for a good outcome for both soldiers!

Now to the main point of this update — it has been confirmed by multiple sources that a suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody.

That information broke after earlier reports that the suspect had gotten away, and that there may have been multiple shooters — even while authorities vowed to hunt down the shooter:

Journalist Eric Daugherty originally shared that clip, and quoted the DC Police referring to the suspect:

Check out this report that details West Virginia Gov. Morrisey admitting that his initial statement that both soldiers were dead was apparently inaccurate.

It also includes an explanation by a DC Metro Police Official about the capture of the suspect, according to the New York Post:

A crazed gunman shot two National Guard troops in a cowardly “ambush”-style attack — leaving them in critical condition — just blocks from the White House on Wednesday, according to law enforcement sources and officials, who shortly after confirmed that the suspect was in custody.

The gunman rounded the corner and 17th and I Streets outside the Farragut West Metro Station in Northwest DC around 2:15 p.m. before ambushing the pair of Guard members and opening fire, Metro Police Department executive assistant chief Jeffrey Carroll said at a press conference.

Photos in the aftermath of the horrifying daylight assault showed one of the troops was shot in the head near Farragut Square, a bustling public park with restaurants and retail shopping stores in between the Farragut West and Farragut North metro stations.

Glass was strewn about the crime scene from the bursts of gunfire as bystanders rushed for cover in what Carroll called “a targeted attack.”

West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey posted on X around 3:40 p.m. that both service members from his state had “passed away from their injuries,” but 20 minutes later added that he was “receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information.” (Emphasis added.)

A video has been making the rounds purportedly showing the moment the suspect was taken down.

The details described by DC Metro PD’s Assistant Chief as related in the article I reference above seem to match with the scene in this clip.

I am going to include that video here for the simple reason that it is going viral in regards to this story.

Though it looks to be authentic and fit the details, I want to caution that I can’t fully corroborate at this time that this is definitively the moment of capture.

Here’s that clip:

It is now being reported by Nick Sortor on X.com that the suspect may have been identified, according to CNN.

Sortor included that information with this photo, also allegedly showing the suspect being loaded into an Ambulance at the scene:

It has been reported that Secret Service and Metro PD both responded to the shooting alongside other Guardsmen, so that the identity of who actually shot the suspect during his capture remains a mystery at this time.

The nature of the suspect’s wounds have so far prevented them from gathering more details directly from him, as reported by The Independent:

The guardsmen from West Virginia were shot just north of the White House shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday. The identity and motive of the suspected shooter remain unclear.

Jeffery Carroll, executive assistant chief at the Metropolitan Police Department, told reporters late Wednesday afternoon that the guardsmen had been patrolling the area when the suspected shooter came around the corner, raised his arm with a gun and fired at the soldiers.

The other guardsmen had “heard the gunfire. They actually were able to intervene and to kind of hold down the suspect after he had been shot on the ground.”

Carroll said the suspect was shot during the incident, and that both the guardsmen and the suspect were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

It’s unclear who shot the suspect, police say.

Witness Michael Ryan said he was in “disbelief” when he heard gunfire.

“I was across the street when the first round of shots were fired,” Ryan told reporters. “Little bit of disbelief, but people started running, cars started speeding off as well.”

Police believe there was only one suspect involved in the shooting.

“We have reviewed video from the area. It appears like I said, to be a lone gunman that raised the firearm and ambushed these members of the National Guard,” Carroll said.

It’s unclear what type of weapon the suspect used in the shooting.

Details about the suspect are still unknown as “he’s still in the hospital receiving treatment,” Carroll said. (Emphasis added.)

UPDATE: As I referenced at the top of this story, the alleged shooter has been reportedly identified.

That’s according to this report just shared on X.com by Eric Daugherty:

And CNN is reporting the same:

That’s the most current information available at the moment.

It looks like we have a foreign national, if these latest reports prove true.

This is a developing story, and we’ll be sure to bring you the latest as more details become available.

In the meantime, join with me in keeping those National Guard soldiers in our prayers.
