Texas has just passed a constitutional amendment requiring voters to be U.S. citizens.
An overwhelming majority of Texas voters approved the amendment, which adds non-U.S. citizens to a list of groups of people who are explicitly not allowed to vote in the state.

💯
It is now in our Constitution that only US citizens can vote in Texas elections. https://t.co/UTLM22p0yN

While it is already both state and federal law that only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote in elections, this amendment drives in that basic statute.
Fox News reported:
Texans overwhelmingly approved a proposal to amend the Lone Star State constitution to stipulate that individuals who are not U.S. citizens are not permitted to vote in the state.
Unofficial results indicate that the proposition decisively passed by just under 72% of the vote.
SJR 37, which is linked to the ballot proposition, indicates that the language, “persons who are not citizens of the United States” will be added to the constitution’s list of classes of people who are not allowed to vote in Texas.
Another state that has added a similar amendment s their constitution is Florida.
Gov. Ron DeSantis reacted:
Texas joins Florida and other states to constitutionalize what should be a matter of basic common sense: you must be a US citizen to vote in elections in the US. https://t.co/TO72SicFld

This is a good step in the right direction.
Now, pass voter ID laws across the nation!
