Do you remember the ICE tracking apps that news outlets like CNN were touting a few months back?
These apps are free to download and allow people to report when they see ICE agents in their area, giving anyone an easy way to track their locations.
They pose a great danger to our law enforcement.
As proof of that, it turns out that Joshua Jahn, the gunman who killed several detainees at a Dallas ICE facility yesterday, utilized such apps in order to locate and track ICE agents.
ICE’s Acting Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations Marco Charles confirmed this during a press conference today.

FBI Director Kash Patel had previously noted that Jahn used ICE tracking apps in an update on X:

@FBIDallas and FBI HQ have been working 24/7 to seize devices, exploit data, and process writings obtained on location and in the subject’s person/residence/bedroom. This @FBI is committed to providing timely updates, as promised:
– The perp downloaded a document titled “Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management” containing a list of DHS facilities.
– He conducted multiple searches of ballistics and the “Charlie Kirk Shot Video” between 9/23-9/24.
-Between 8/19-8/24, he searched apps that tracked the presence of ICE agents.
– One of the handwritten notes recovered read, “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?”
– Further accumulated evidence to this point indicates a high degree of pre-attack planning. The FBI will provide further updates when able.
Even though Jahn’s only victims were detainees, it’s clear he was targeting ICE agents.
USA Today reported:
Officials have described the incident as an attack targeting immigration agents. He used ICE tracking apps to locate agents, officials said.
According to Larson, Jahn’s handwritten notes said ICE personnel were showing up to “collect a dirty paycheck” and that they were involved in “human trafficking.”
The suspect also left behind shell casings inscribed with “messages that are anti-ICE in nature,” Rothrock said. On X, FBI Director Kash Patel posted an image of a casing that had “ANTI ICE” written on it.
Since the shooting, investigators recovered other writings as well as search history that shows “a high degree of pre-attack planning,” Patel said. The suspect allegedly downloaded a document containing a list of Department of Homeland Security facilities, searched for apps that tracked the presence of ICE agents, sought information on ballistics and searched for video footage of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, according to Patel.
The FBI chief said investigators also recovered a handwritten note reading, “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?'”
In response to this development, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called out CNN for promoting ICE tracking apps — therefore, endangering agents.
Read what she had to say here:

Three months ago, CNN irresponsibly gave free publicity to an app that recklessly shares the location of ICE Agents.
It has now been revealed the leftist lunatic shooter who opened fire on the Dallas ICE Facility was using one of these apps.
The liberal media is complicit in the increased threats and violence against ICE.
We see it every day — they are quick to write a fake story portraying ICE in a negative light, often omitting the real facts of these cases, and they hardly ever write about the vicious criminals that ICE is arresting every day to make our country safer.
However, CNN is still defending use of these apps.
A spokesperson told the Daily Wire:
“This is an app that is publicly available to any iPhone user who wants to download it,” a CNN spokesman told The Daily Wire Thursday. “There is nothing illegal about reporting the existence of this or any other app, nor does such reporting constitute promotion or other endorsement of the app by CNN.”
What do you think?
Should ICE tracking apps be taken down?
Does CNN need to be held accountable for promoting them?
