The U.N. General Assembly voted to support establishing a Hamas-free government for Palestine as part of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
In a 142-10 vote with 12 abstentions, the body approved the endorsement of the “New York Declaration.”
France and Saudi Arabia co-sponsored the declaration.
Countries who voted against the declaration included Israel, the United States, Hungary, and Argentina.
“Today, under the leadership of France and Saudi Arabia, 142 countries have adopted the New York Declaration on the implementation of the Two-State Solution. Together, we are charting an irreversible path towards peace in the Middle East. France, Saudi Arabia, and all their partners will be in New York to make this peace plan a reality at the Conference on the Two-State Solution,” French President Emmanuel Macron said.
“Another future is possible. Two peoples, two States : Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security. It is up to all of us to make it happen!” he added.

More from the Associated Press:
The nearly two-year war in Gaza and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict are expected to be at the top of the agenda of world leaders at their annual gathering at the General Assembly starting on Sept. 22. The Palestinians say they hope at least 10 more countries will recognize the state of Palestine, adding to the more than 145 countries that already do.
Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian U.N. ambassador, said the support for the resolution reflects “the yearning of almost everyone, the international community, to open the door for the option of peace.”
Without naming Israel, he said, “We invite a party that is still pushing the option of war and destruction, and attempts to eliminate the Palestinian people and steal their land, to listen to the sound of reason — to the sound of the logic of dealing with this issue peacefully, and for the overwhelming message that has resonated in this General Assembly today.”
But Israel’s U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon dismissed the resolution as “theater,” saying the only beneficiary is Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said hours before the vote “there will be no Palestinian state.”

This is a Guest Post from our friends over at 100 Percent Fed Up. View the original article here. The aim is to show that Israel and the US are isolated in opposing a long-term solution to the Gaza war, and how countries such as Germany, a strong supporter of Israel, are backing a solution in which the Palestinian Authority governs the West Bank and Gaza.
The 142-10 vote on Friday was to endorse the so-called New York declaration, a statement calling for a two-state solution, crafted by France and Saudi Arabia in July.
It includes some of the sharpest criticism of Hamas ever endorsed by the UN. The text states: “We condemn the attacks perpetrated on 7 October by Hamas against civilians,” and “Hamas must release all hostages” held in Gaza.
