WATCH: Police Dashcam Footage Shows Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate In Profanity-Laced Tirade After Being Arrested In His Underwear

Shocking police dashcam footage shows a Democrat gubernatorial candidate shouting curse words after getting arrested in just his underwear.

William “Mullins” McLeod, 53, is facing calls from his party to discontinue his campaign for Governor of South Carolina and focus on his mental health.

In the video, McLeod yelled, sometimes making incomprehensible statements, for about 30 minutes in the back of a police cruiser.

McLeod also referred to himself as “God” and “Superman.”

The footage occurred while he was being transported to a county jail.

The Charleston Police Department shared the footage with The Post and Courier, who first reported on the dashcam video days after McLeod became the first Democrat to enter the gubernatorial race.

“The newspaper submitted a public information request for the police footage after McLeod announced his candidacy,” The Post and Courier wrote.

More from The Post and Courier:

Officers found McLeod, 53, around 9:30 p.m. on May 14 “yelling at the top of his lungs,” clad just in underwear and shoes near King Street and Murray Boulevard, according to an incident report. They quickly detained him and booked him on a public disorderly charge.

In the provided police footage, the high-profile attorney and two-time chairman of the Charleston County Democratic Party identifies himself by his full name. He also tells officers they can refer to him as “Superman,” or as “God,” and promises that he’s “one of the most just humans to ever walk this Earth.”

He shouts “McLeod for governor!” from where he sat at the passenger side rear window of the police cruiser, and repeatedly uses expletives and derogatory words to describe people, including the police officers around him and former and current political figures.

Among those presumably mentioned are Gov. Henry McMaster, former Gov. Nikki Haley and U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace. He also refers to President Donald Trump, former President Barack Obama and others, including former South Carolina lawmaker and CNN commentator Bakari Sellers.

The footage captures him using the n-word and at one point calling a man “my (n-word).”

The chair of South Carolina’s Democratic Party called on McLeod to drop out of the gubernatorial race.

“Mullins McLeod is a skilled attorney, a former Democratic Party chair who worked tirelessly for our values, and a member of a proud Lowcountry family with a long tradition of public service,” state Democratic Party Chairwoman Christale Spain said in a statement.

“After reviewing the transcript of the dash cam footage from his recent arrest, it is clear that Mr. McLeod is navigating profound challenges and should focus on his mental and emotional well-being instead of a campaign for governor,” the statement continued.

South Carolina Daily Gazette noted:

It appears McLeod is not heeding Spain’s advice, with his campaign manager telling the SC Daily Gazette he won’t back away.

“Everything is straight ahead,” said Democratic strategist Cary Cranford. He declined to address McLeod’s mental health.

McLeod did not respond to messages Wednesday left by the SC Daily Gazette. Nor did his criminal defense attorney.

The dashcam video comes from McLeod’s arrest in May on disorderly conduct charges. In it, the 53-year-old personal injury attorney jumps incoherently from one grievance to the next — shouting expletives and accusations for the entire ride against a variety of state and federal lawmakers and using a racial slur. He repeatedly threatens people he doesn’t like — saying he’ll kick their teeth in or let someone else do it — and occasionally yells out “McLeod for governor!”

The high-profile lawyer’s arrest, which made headlines in May, did not stop the Democrat from launching his bid Monday for the Governor’s Mansion. In his three-minute campaign video posted to YouTube, he criticizes “corruption” at the Statehouse. Asked Monday about his arrest, he disputed the police report but declined to go into details. However, he pledged to fully explain what happened before voters go to the polls.
