Former Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris made a surprising statement during an interview with “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.
Harris, while speaking with Colbert, claimed the political system is broken.
She continued to share that she doesn’t plan to return to the political system.
Colbert responded by telling Harris that her response was “harrowing.”
Check out what MSN reports on Harris’ comments:
Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday surprised “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert with her “very candid” reason for not wanting to be a public servant right now.
Harris, who announced this week that she wouldn’t run for California governor, recalled her long career in public office and said: “I just, for now, I don’t want to go back in the system. I think it’s broken.”
The 2024 Democratic presidential candidate acknowledged the “many good people” in the public sector and said she “always believed that as fragile as our democracy is, our systems would be strong enough to defend our most fundamental principles.”
But amid President Donald Trump’s second term, she said, “I think right now that they’re not as strong as they need to be and I just don’t want to, for now, I don’t want to go back in the system. I want to travel the country. I want to listen to people, I want to talk with people and I don’t want it to be transactional, where I’m asking for their vote.”
Colbert said: “To hear you say that it’s broken, to hear you say that our systems aren’t strong enough, is harrowing.”
Harris asked him: “But it’s also evident, isn’t it?”
She then clarified that it “doesn’t mean we give up.”
“Oh, absolutely not. I am always going to be part of the fight. That is not going to change,” she added.

Harris may not want to return to the political system because she’s too busy profiting from her failed presidential run.
AP shared more details on Harris’s latest book deal:
Former Vice President Kamala Harris will have a memoir out in the fall on her historic presidential run.
The book is called “107 Days,” the length of her abbreviated campaign, and will be published by Simon & Schuster on Sept. 23.“Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for President of the United States,” Harris said in a video announcement on Thursday. “107 days traveling the country, fighting for our future — the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days and with candor and reflection, I’ve written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey. I believe there’s value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what it will take to move forward.”
Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp declined to offer any specifics on what Harris will write about, including her thoughts on questions about President Joe Biden’s fitness for office, but said Harris “addresses everything we would want her to address.”
Harris ended up heading the Democratic ticket after Biden dropped out last July in the wake of a disastrous debate performance, and she was defeated last November by Republican Donald Trump. She would have been the first woman and first woman of color to become president.
What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story.
My new book is a behind-the-scenes look at my experience leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.
107 Days is out on September 23. I can't wait for you to read it: https://t.co/G4bkeZB4NZ pic.twitter.com/taUof0L4hs
