George Clooney Is Already Meddling In The 2028 Election: ‘Someone We Could All Join In Behind’

Actor George Clooney has long been a dyed-in-the-wool leftist, but his political influence was put to the test ahead of November’s election.

After hosting a star-studded fundraiser for Joe Biden, Clooney later penned a scathing op-ed questioning the then-president’s cognitive abilities. The article has widely been cited as a central reason Biden was ultimately convinced to drop out of the race.

Now, the “Ocean’s Eleven” star has his eyes set on an election that’s still more than three and a half years away, and he thinks he knows which Democrat is already in a prime position to vie for the party’s 2028 nomination.

According to the New York Post:

The “Gravity” star praised Democratic Govs. Andy Beshear of Kentucky and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan before making the case for the chief executive of the Free State.

“Who I think is levitating above that is Wes Moore,” Clooney declared.

The Hollywood star and Democratic megadonor cited Moore’s response to the deadly March 2024 collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, his combat service and his work at a George Soros-backed venture philanthropy firm as reasons why the Maryland governor is jumping out at him.

“I think he is a guy that has handled this tragedy in Baltimore beautifully. He does two tours of duty in Afghanistan — active duty. He speaks beautifully. He’s smart. He ran a hedge fund — the Robin Hood Foundation. He’s a proper leader,” Clooney said.

“I like him a lot,” he added. “I think he could be someone we could all join in behind.”

Of course, it’s still far too early for any political analysts to make an informed prediction about the 2028 presidential race. But that hasn’t put an end to the speculation that is already swirling on both sides of the aisle:

While Moore’s resume might appeal to Clooney and others seeking a Democratic ticket with wider appeal, the governor does come with some baggage of his own.

As Axios reported in August:

Two years after a campaign controversy over a description of Moore as a Bronze Star honoree (he isn’t), The New York Times published his 2006 application for a White House fellowship, which claimed he received the Bronze Star for service in Afghanistan in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.

Moore — now 45, then 27 — won the fellowship.

The Times’ Reid Epstein obtained the document this week as part of a Freedom of Information Act request.

What they’re saying: “I was encouraged to fill out an application for the White House Fellowship by my deputy brigade commander,” Moore said in a statement. “In fact, he helped me edit it before I sent it in. At the time, he had recommended me for the Bronze Star. He told me to include the Bronze Star award on my application after confirming with two other senior-level officers that they had also signed off on the commendation.”
