AG Pam Bondi Approves Restoring Mel Gibson’s Gun Rights

The Department of Justice has just restored gun rights to Hollywood actor and staunch Trump supporter Mel Gibson.

In 2011, Mel Gibson lost his rights to own a gun after pleading guilty to domestic violence — until now.

Attorney General Pam Bondi signed off on the decision to give Mel back his Second Amendment rights.

The New York Times reported:

Justice Department officials will allow the actor Mel Gibson, a prominent supporter of President Trump, to own guns again, ending a once contentious debate that had roiled the upper ranks of the department, according to people familiar with the decision.

Concerns over restoring Mr. Gibson’s gun rights led to a tense back-and-forth with the Justice Department’s pardon attorney, Elizabeth G. Oyer, shortly before she was fired by the Trump administration last month.

The decision, which also applies to nine others, was approved by Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. The specifics are expected to be published in The Federal Register, they added.

Variety added:

The Justice Department has approved Mel Gibson‘s rights to own guns again after a 2011 domestic violence conviction.

Attorney General Pam Bondi approved the restoration of the actor’s gun rights, along with nine other people, the New York Times reported.

Gibson, who in January was named a “special ambassador” to Hollywood by President Trump along with Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone, would be permitted to own firearms again depending on state laws. Gibson is a resident of Nevada, which prohibits felons owning guns, but Gibson’s conviction was a misdemeanor.
