The alleged mishap involving Atlantic reporter Jeffrey Goldberg’s ‘accidental’ inclusion in a high level Trump Administration war planning session is still taking up more than its’ fair share of the current news cycle.
And even with what I’m about to bring you, I am still on the fence as to whether it really was a misstep.
There is still a very strong case to be made that this ‘leak’ (which was technically no leak at all) was actually a shrewdly devised method of putting Europe on notice in a way that would be sure to make the headlines.
After all, the Trump Administration isn’t exactly what I would call “risk adverse” right now. They are in full offensive mode with win after win under their belts, and I see no reason why they wouldn’t risk a tiny bit of bad press from the Left-stream legacy media in order to indirectly telegraph to Europe that the status-quo highway is about to run out of pavement.
At any rate, President Trump dove back into the controversy surrounding the military conversation on the Signal app today during a phone interview with NBC News.
That fact alone makes me even more suspicious that this was intentional, and based on a risk/reward calculation.
It’s not every day that President Trump chats it up on the phone with NBC News.
But today, he did — with NBC journalist Garrett Haake, specifically to talk about the Signal flap.
And he divulged a few more details on how exactly the Trump-hating Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg ‘accidentally’ found himself invited in to a high-level chat.
But I still find it very suspicious that those present in the chat coincidentally spent more time expounding about their dwindling patience with Europe as a ‘free-loading’ entity in relation to the United States… than anything related to the Houthis or U.S. strikes on Yemen.
Initially, the word was that Mike Waltz had personally invited Atlantic reporter Goldberg to the chat… and President Trump didn’t initially push back against that angle:
"They started by saying it was the greatest first month a president has ever had and I think that is true. Now, they say it's the best second month. They had to find something."
President Trump is right again, the media is blowing this Signal story WAY out of proportion because… pic.twitter.com/SP6Rc98SQX

But President Trump is now saying that it wasn’t actually National Security Advisor Mike Waltz who added Goldberg to the Signal group chat, but an unnamed Waltz staffer.
Here’s the NBC take on President Trump’s remarks to their reporter (along with the expected anti-Trump bias, of course):
Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, if you ask me.
It very well could have been an UNNAMED STAFFER on Mike Waltz’ team who inadvertently added a Trump-hating Atlantic reporter to the high-level chat, as NBC is reporting:
“Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man,” Trump said Tuesday in a phone interview with NBC News.
Trump’s comments were his first substantive remarks since The Atlantic broke the story, which detailed how journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to a group chat on a private messaging app where plans for military strikes in Yemen were discussed. Goldberg said he was added to the discussion after receiving a request from a user identified as Waltz.
When asked what he was told about how Goldberg came to be added to the Signal chat, Trump said, “It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there.”
Trump said Goldberg’s presence in the chat had “no impact at all” on the military operation.
The president expressed confidence in his team, saying he was not frustrated by the events leading up to The Atlantic’s story. The situation, Trump said, was “the only glitch in two months, and it turned out not to be a serious one.”

Or… is it possible that the official story shifted from Mike Waltz to that UNNAMED STAFFER in order to diffuse what bad press they’re receiving for making sure Europe got the point?
Here are a few of the screenshots from the conversation being circulated from Goldberg’s reporting; you be the judge:

As Noah reported on the outset, that doesn’t sound like the authentic voices of the individuals in question.
It seems… contrived… at least in some way.
Vance, Hegseth Caught Up In Huge National Security Text Message Scandal?
And the more I look into what was -- and wasn't -- discussed in the conversation that Goldberg was privy to, it seems very strange that NOTHING inappropriate for public consumption was said during such a high-level discussion.
In fact, the ONLY THING of consequence discussed was the TIMING of the attacks -- which just happened to be the perfect validation a journalist would need to verify that the chat was legitimate to begin with; and then run it to press... for all the world (and Europe's leaders) to hear.
Nevertheless, President Trump had to push back today against the Left's calls for Waltz' firing, according to Fox News:
Trump separately defended Waltz in comment to Fox News on Tuesday, saying the national security advisor will not be fired over the incident.
ADVERTISEMENT"He’s not getting fired," Trump told Fox News. The president said the incident was a "mistake," though there was "nothing important" in the Signal text thread.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt added in a social media post on Tuesday that "No ‘war plans’ were discussed" in the group chat, and that "no classified material was sent to the thread."
As Noah suggested early on, I think there is a reasonable likelihood that this was done intentionally for purposes having much broader implications, which the Trump Administration considered worth the risk of a little bad press.
Particularly since ZERO classified information or actual military plans were discussed, as Karoline Leavitt has pointed out:
Jeffrey Goldberg is well-known for his sensationalist spin. Here are the facts about his latest story:
1. No “war plans” were discussed.
2. No classified material was sent to the thread.

Here's the full text of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's post:
Jeffrey Goldberg is well-known for his sensationalist spin. Here are the facts about his latest story:
1. No “war plans” were discussed.
2. No classified material was sent to the thread.
3. The White House Counsel’s Office has provided guidance on a number of different platforms for President Trump’s top officials to communicate as safely and efficiently as possible.
As the National Security Council stated, the White House is looking into how Goldberg’s number was inadvertently added to the thread.
Thanks to the strong and decisive leadership of President Trump, and everyone in the group, the Houthi strikes were successful and effective. Terrorists were killed and that’s what matters most to President Trump.

And while I'm on the subject, quite a few people find it just as unbelievable that this non-leak 'leak' was unintentional.
The popular X account MJTruthUltra was one of the most adamant to highlight the likelihood that this was a Trump Administration Op intended to troll the Leftist media here at home, while sending a clear message to our 'allies' overseas:
I was sick yesterday, but I got caught up on The Atlantic Story lol
So apparently, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic was “mistakenly” added to a Signal group chat named "Houthi PC small group" by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

Here's the full text of that post, which I find VERY compelling:
So apparently, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic was “mistakenly” added to a Signal group chat named "Houthi PC small group" by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
Who Was in the Chat?
— Pete Hegseth
— Michael Waltz
— JD Vance
— Marco Rubio
— Unnamed Others “a small group of senior officials”Trump officials confirmed it happened and Trump described it as a “Glitch”
The chat supposedly detailed military plans against Houthi rebels in Yemen, shared two hours before strikes on March 15.
After reviewing… “accidentally adding” a shithead like Jeffrey Goldberg, who works for The Atlantic, an Epstein shill… is damn near unbelievable.
Does anyone really believe that? You know that didn’t happen by accident. lol
So, we’re left with just theories…
I believe Jeffrey Goldberg was intentionally selected to leak information that the Trump admin wanted leaked… (Trump notoriously used these same tactics during his first term)
Not about “war plans”, which weren’t war plans at all, but to indirectly signal to Europe that WE’RE TIRED OF YOUR FREELOADING BULLSHIT.
They used Jeffrey like a pawn.
Podcaster Ian Miles Cheong gave a similar take on the 'leak'.
He pointed out in a post on his X account yesterday that the chances someone 'randomly' happened to invite the likes of Jeffrey Goldberg to the chat... is almost ridiculous:
It seems more and more likely that the Atlantic leak of the Signal texts from the Trump administration was intentionally designed to send a message to European leadership and signal (pun intended) to them what America expects out of Europe for cleaning out the rats nest in the… pic.twitter.com/YXUCid980Q

Here's the full explanation from Cheong's post:
It seems more and more likely that the Atlantic leak of the Signal texts from the Trump administration was intentionally designed to send a message to European leadership and signal (pun intended) to them what America expects out of Europe for cleaning out the rats nest in the Red Sea. It’s all very deliberate and they wouldn’t have just made a special chat room to talk about a single strike.
Given that nothing sensitive was even divulged in the texts, it’s hard to imagine it was ANYTHING but intentional.
After all, what are the chances that someone high up in the admin would randomly happen to invite Jeffrey Goldberg of all possible people to divulge this information to—and not a single other person in the room noticed who the speakers were and how he was among them?
I thought the leaks were fake at first, given how heavily scripted they sound in their interactions. Now that it’s been officially confirmed, it’s highly probable that it was intentional. A psyop on the legacy media, using Goldberg of all people (the guy who made up the story about how Trump insulted veterans) as their conduit.

There is also the possibility that it was an actual mistake.
If so, it could be that the Trump-hating Deep State is attempting a 'pincher move' which includes Goldberg's information, as Steve Bannon explained in his take on the situation.
He points out very noteworthily that the nine day space of time between Goldberg's inclusion in the conversation and the breaking of the story happened to coincide with unclassified Congressional intelligence hearings.
Check out his take:
Do you think it was random that this hearing was held today? Goldberg had this information for nine days. This was set up to be an ambush. pic.twitter.com/3QBmh0ynmu

At any rate, one things seems completely obvious: there is far more going on here than a casual surface read of the situation would suggest.
I still don't know whether President Trump's team initiated an Op to diplomatically put Europe on their heels in preparation for some hard conversations...
Or if the Deep State is simply doing Deep State stuff.
But President Trump's assertion to NBC News that a 'staffer' on Mike Waltz's team was the one who made the accidental invite to Goldberg does seem to indicate an attempt at tightening up the ship and a battening down of the hatches in order to whether the current storm.
I suspect we haven't seen the end of this incident yet, and we may also still have opportunity to find out the details of whatever intrigue seems to be afoot.
