Iconic Gas Station Hit With Questionable Lawsuit Days After Unsuccessful Biden Visit

One of the most iconic gas stations in Pennsylvania, Sheetz, was hit with a major lawsuit by the Biden administration.

The best part about this lawsuit is that Biden just stopped by one of their locations during his campaign trail.

The Equal Employment opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently accused Sheetz of racial discrimination.

Fox Business provides more on the specifics of the lawsuit:

Specifically, the EEOC argues that Sheetz’s criminal background checks were discriminatory because of how its system weeded out applicants who were believed to have failed the checks. The EEOC said that this disproportionately impacted Native American, Black and multiracial jobseekers.

Though the lawsuit does not allege that the discrimination was purposeful, it nonetheless claims that Sheetz violated the law.

CBS News adds more on the comments from EEOC Regional Attorney Debra M. Lawrence:

“Federal law mandates that employment practices causing a disparate impact because of race or other protected classifications must be shown by the employer to be necessary to ensure the safe and efficient performance of the particular jobs at issue,”

“Even when such necessity is proven, the practice remains unlawful if there is an alternative practice available that is comparably effective in achieving the employer’s goals but causes less discriminatory effect.”

While the federal officials admit Sheetz are not motivated by race, but they have an issue with the chain store using criminal background checks to screen their job applicants.

ABC News expands on the EEOC’s hopes for the lawsuit:

The EEOC, an independent agency that enforces federal laws against workplace discrimination, is seeking to force Sheetz to offer jobs to applicants who were unlawfully denied employment and to provide back pay, retroactive seniority and other benefits.

The timing of this lawsuit is seriously questionable, with Biden recently visiting a Sheetz store to very little fanfare or excitement during his campaign trail.

Many have taken to X to point out the interesting timing of this lawsuit:

It is insane to think a company using background checks as a screening tool can turn into a lawsuit – welcome to the society Biden created!
