OUTRAGE: High School Student Suspended For Using Common Phrase

Are we living through the plot of George Orwell’s 1984?

A North Carolina high school student was recently suspended for using a common phrase that appears all over government documents.

Can you guess what he dared to say? ‘Illegal alien,’ that’s right—he was suspended for days for saying a completely harmless and common phrase. The New York Post outlined the incident:

His mother, Leah McGhee, said his teacher had given an assignment that used the word “alien,” and Christian asked: “Like space aliens or illegal aliens without green cards?”

Another student reportedly took offense and threatened to fight Christian, so the teacher took the matter to the assistant principal, according to the Carolina Journal.

My only question is did the other student who threatened violence against McGhee face any repercussions, or was McGhee the only one suspended?

Needless to say, reactions to the news on social media were overwhelmingly negative. Take a look:

Newsweek provided this statement from the student’s mother:

“Because of his question, our son was disciplined and given THREE days OUT of school suspension for ‘racism,'” Leah McGhee said in the email, per the Carolina Journal.

“He is devastated and concerned that the racism label on his school record will harm his future goal of receiving a track scholarship.

We are concerned that he will fall behind in his classes due to being absent for three consecutive days.”
