FISA Battle Round 2, Warrantless Surveillance Up For Rare Second Vote

America is no longer a free society, and the recent FISA vote was just one more piece of evidence that our ‘lawmakers’ have betrayed the American people.

The measure that would have reigned in the rogue intelligence agencies and stopped their warrantless spying on the American people failed by just one vote.

However, the battle is not yet over, according to concerned GOP legislators.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has forced a second procedural vote on FISA surveillance set to take place this coming Monday. The GOP lawmaker announced on Friday:

“You cannot have a free and open society with the warrantless spying of Americans. Today, the bipartisan vote to force intelligence communities to get a warrant was lost by one vote.

In an effort to stop this, I requested a rare procedural maneuver that will force a second vote on Monday.

Hopefully, we can change minds. I will be writing all 435 members over the weekend. Please help me. Talk to your reps. We have one last shot at this.”

The amendment to end warrantless surveillance failed to pass in a tie vote of 212-212 on the House floor.

It would have prohibited “warrantless searches of U.S. person communications in the FISA 702 database, with exceptions for imminent threats to life or bodily harm, consent searches, or known cybersecurity threat signatures.”

Journalist Michael Tracey exposed the hypocrisy and double standards in Washington DC:

The Epoch Times clarified:

Section 702 authorizes intelligence agencies to conduct warrantless surveillance of foreigners, but it also captures information on Americans with whom the foreign target communicates.

This has drawn civil liberty concerns from both sides of the aisle, especially after revelations of expansive misuse by the FBI. The power expires on April 19.
