Emergency Crews Respond To Massive Blaze At Livestock Auction Barn [VIDEO]


A massive fire erupted at a livestock auction facility in Rock Island, Illinois.

Emergency crews and firefighters responded to the scene and fought the blaze that engulfed multiple buildings.

“Currently, numerous firefighters and other emergency crews are on the scene of a massive fire located in Rock Island, Illinois. The fire has spread throughout multiple buildings, including a barn with livestock cattle. Fire crews were initially overwhelmed by the massive fire, prompting a request for backup. Heavy flames and smoke can be seen for miles. It is believed that everyone is accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. However, multiple animals are presumed to have been killed in the fire. There is no determined cause of the fire at this time, and the investigation will begin once the fire is extinguished,” Rawsalerts wrote.

“Numerous firefighters are still battling the blaze, with Doppler radar revealing heavy plumes of smoke from the fire,” an updated post read.

A large fire erupted at the Rock Island Livestock Auction barn Saturday afternoon.

The wooden facility located at 534 34th Avenue caught fire around 5:30 p.m. Fire departments from all around the Quad Cities responded.

Firefighters set up a collapse zone around the site. Authorities say there are no known injuries.

Firefighters are asking the public to stay at least two blocks away from the scene of the fire as they contain the blaze.

Rock Island Fire Marshal Greg Marty reportedly said 22 cattle have been rescued.

“One is dead, and one is still on the loose in Rock Island,” WQAD News 8 added.

Our Quad Cities News noted:

This fire burned intensely and nothing is expected to be salvageable. Fire crews from Rock Island, Moline, Davenport and some other departments were on scene.

There were some cattle on site – a firefighter told Our Quad Cities News many of them were loose and roaming the area.

The hay at the facility was a major factor in how quickly this fire grew massively.

Fire crews were using every hydrant in the area to get water on the fire.

There are no reports of any injuries so far.

Fire crews remain on the scene as of 10 p.m. At this point, it’s too early to know what caused the fire.
