Putin: “The War (With Ukraine) Would Have Been Over Long Ago, 18 Months Ago”

The bombshell Tucker Carlson interview with Vladimir Putin is already leaving us with some big talking points.

This includes a claim by Putin that the war with Ukraine would have been over more than a year ago if not for former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Putin said that he was ready to sign a treaty ending the war 18 months ago before Johnson then allegedly encouraged Ukraine to fight Russia instead.

During the interview, Tucker asked Putin for clarity on his stance on a settlement with Ukraine:

“I think you’re saying you want a negotiated settlement to what’s happening in Ukraine.”

Putin responded in the affirmative:

“Right… We were ready to sign it and the war would have been over long ago, 18 months ago…”

Here is that exchange:

Putin elaborated on the treaty that could have been, and put blame at the feet of former United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Allegedly, the head of Ukraine’s ruling party, Davyd Arakhamia, had already put a preliminary signature on the deal before Johnson intervened.

This from Putin:

“But then he [Arakhamia] publicly stated to the whole world, we were ready to sign this document but Mr. Johnson, then the Prime Minister, came and dissuaded us from doing this, saying it was better to fight Russia, proclaimed Putin.”

Daily Mail reported on Putin’s claim:

Vladimir Putin outrageously claimed last night that he was ready to sign a deal to end the war with Ukraine 18 months ago but Boris Johnson scuppered the deal.

The Russian President sensationally claimed the former Prime Minister ‘dissuaded’ the leader of Ukraine’s leading party from signing the document.

Mr Putin alleged that negotiations had been taking place in Istanbul and that Ukraine signed the deal but backed out under pressure from Mr Johnson who said it was ‘better to fight Russia’.

The 70-year-old despot made the jaw-dropping accusations during the much anticipated two-hour long sit-down interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Mr Putin was allowed to drone on unchallenged for long chunks of time as he gave a rambling history lesson about Russia dating back to the year 800.

He claimed that Davyd Arakhamia, the head of Ukraine’s ruing party, put his ‘preliminary signature’ on the deal after direct negotiations with Russians in Istanbul.

Mr Putin said: ‘But then he [Arakhamia] publicly stated to the whole world, we were ready to sign this document but Mr Johnson, then the Prime Minister, came and dissuaded us from doing this, saying it was better to fight Russia.

What’s most interesting here is what role Joe Biden may have played in this whole mess.
