Flagship Left-Wing News Outlet Losing $100 MILLION Per Year, Will It “Die In Darkness?”

I have long wondered how these mainstream news outlets like CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News do it.

These news organizations have hundreds of millions of dollars in expenses every single year, yet their viewership is in steep decline, with some of these networks seeing 30,000 viewers in a single weekend for some programs.

How can they possibly afford to keep the doors open? Unless, of course, the value proposition in owning these outlets has nothing to do with profitability and everything to do with control.

America’s business elite have long ventured into the territory of print and televised media. He who controls the media controls the narrative and can ultimately push anything they choose to push.

Moreover, they can suppress anything they choose to suppress; how much is that type of control worth?

The Washington Post became the latest focus of the mainstream media decline that is currently ongoing. Sources claim the flagship left-wing news outlet is losing $100 million per year.

Journalist and political analyst Josh Kraushaar shared this Puck News article and highlighted: “In addition to churning subscribers and losing $100 million a year, the Washington Post is also failing to engage audiences. Four years ago, the Post boasted 139 million monthly visitors. By the end of last year, it had less than 60 million.”

In the middle of 2023, Fox News reported:

Bezos took over the Post for $250 million in 2013, in one of the most significant media acquisitions of the last decade.

The Post’s famous saying, “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” became the official slogan of the paper in 2017, under Bezos’ watch.

But it seems that even Bezos could not turn around The Post’s flagging popularity with readers.

Many readers online expressed indifference or even joy at the WaPo’s financial troubles, and some even expressed a lack of shock at this recent development.

Reuters reports that the Washington Post attempted to reduce staff last year:

The Washington Post said that it is projected to end the year taking a $100 million loss.

The publisher added that executives are offering buyouts across the company in an effort to reduce its headcount by about 10%, the newsroom is expected to shrink to about 940 journalists.
