Kevin McCarthy Holds First Press Conference Since Getting OUSTED, Reveals If He Will Run Again

Now former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made history on Tuesday night but not the history he was expecting.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy has become the first House Speaker  in the history of the U.S.  House to be removed by vote.

After getting ousted, McCarthy shared “I will not seek to run again for Speaker of the House.”

He continued “I may have lost a vote today, but I fought for what I believe in—and I believe in America. It has been an honor to serve.”

“I will not run for speaker again. I’ll have the [Republican] conference pick somebody else,” McCarthy said in remarks to the press following a closed-door meeting with GOP lawmakers.

McCarthy initially informed Republican colleagues about his decision during the meeting, multiple lawmakers said as they left the gathering. The California Republican served as House speaker for the last nine months after a chaotic effort within the GOP conference in January to elect him.

When asked Tuesday night by a reporter if he plans to remain a member of Congress, McCarthy said, “I’ll look at that.”

McCarthy is coping big time:

Here’s what The Hill reported:

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he will not seek the Speaker’s gavel again after being removed from the position on Tuesday, a stunning decision that capped off a historic day on Capitol Hill.

“From the day I entered politics, my initial mission has always been to make tomorrow better than today. I fought for what I believe in, and I believe in this country of America,” McCarthy said in a press conference. “My goals have not changed. My ability to fight is just in a different form.”

“Unfortunately, 4 percent of our conference can join all the Democrats and dictate who can be the Republican Speaker in this House,” McCarthy continued. “I don’t think that room is good for the institution, but apparently I’m the only one. I believe I can continue to fight, maybe in a different manner. I will not run for Speaker again. I’ll have the conference pick somebody else.”
