It’s Official: Bud Light Has Been Dethroned!

It’s no secret that the Bud Light brand has been in free fall since the fallout from the Mulvaney PR disaster.

The ailing beer brand was once America’s #1 selling beer label. …Now it has officially been dethroned for the first time on a year-to-date basis by Modelo.

Previously, we reported that Modelo had unseated Bud Light on a month-to-month sales basis.

A snapshot of Anheuser-Busch’s current stock price shows a drop of $11 per share since the start of the conservative boycott.

Prior to that, the stock was trading in a range that could have been seen as the consolidation phase of a broader downtrend.

CNN Business provided more details:

Sales of Modelo at grocery and beer stores have surpassed Bud Light’s over the course of 2023, according to newly released NIQ data, the first time Modelo has ever beaten Bud Light on a year-to-date basis.

There’s a tight race to the top, with Modelo landing in first place, gaining 8.34% share of dollars spent on beer vs. 8.28% for Bud Light through August 12.

A quick look at the memes will likely prompt one to ask if the Bud Light brand will ever come back from the Mulvaney marketing disaster.

The New York Post adds:

Anheuser-Busch InBev felt the sting of the Bud Light boycott, reporting a 10.5% drop in revenue and a nearly 30% plunge in core profit in the US during the second quarter
