FACT CHECK: Elon Musk Said He Would Buy Fox News?

Newsmax host Greg Kelly said he heard Elon Musk was looking to buy Fox News and said that sounded “VERY interesting.”

Wow! Did you hear what I JUST HEARD? That @elonmusk is looking at BUYING Fox News?!?! VERY interesting!” Kelly tweeted.

Is this true?

Is Elon Musk seriously considering buying Fox News?

A quick fact check shows this is NOT true.

Kelly’s tweet got an instant Twitter community note.

“An Elon Musk parody account (@ElonMuskAOC) tweeted ‘Should I just buy Fox News and CNN?’, to which Elon Musk responded with laughing emojis. So, Elon Musk is not looking to buy Fox News,” the community note read.

“Should I just buy Fox News and CNN? Probably would be best for everyone,” Elon Musk (Parody) wrote.

Elon Musk responded with laughing emojis.

“Buy ‘em and turn them off,” Elon Musk (Parody) responded.

Although Elon Musk has never publicly expressed interest to acquire Fox News or CNN, HITC explained that it’s possible if Musk wanted to explore a potential purchase.

From HITC:

Fox News is a part of the Fox Corporation that’s owned by the Murdoch family with media mogul Rupert Murdoch serving as its Chairman of the Board.

As of July 2023, Fox is estimated to be worth $16 Billion, represented by its market capitalization.

CNN, on the other hand, is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, with its valuation estimated to be anywhere between $8 and $12 billion.

Considering the net worth of Elon, which is estimated to be $256.2 Billion as of July 2023, he can afford to buy both news networks if he wishes to.
