Yuengling the Next Bud Light?

Could Yuengling become the next beer company to face a massive boycott?

The beer brand, the oldest operating brewing company in the United States, reportedly will sponsor a venue hosting a drag show in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

“Need your drag fix before our iconic Musikfest Drag Show? Well, the queens return to Musikfest Cafe on June 30th!” Musikfest posted on its Facebook page.

“Close out Pride Month with a FIERCE show,” it added.

According to the event’s website, it’s called ‘Draggin’ with the Divas.’

“Draggin’ with the Divas is a drag show featuring music performed by some of our favorite Queens covering Queens. Hosted by Elektra Fearce St. James,” the website read.

The venue, Musikfest Café, is presented by Yuengling.

“Musikfest Café presented by Yuengling,” the website stated.

Musikfest is selling tickets to the event through ArtsQuest.

According to its website, ArtsQuest “is a 510(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing access to art, culture and educational programs for the diverse residents of the Lehigh Valley and others who seek access to our community.”

ArtsQuest Ticket Policy states:

All persons entering a venue, including babies in arms, must have a ticket. Each ticket will allow one admittance. If a ticket holder leaves the venue, for any reason, re-admittance will not be allowed. Attendance of children under 2 years of age may not be recommended for some performances.

The Post Millennial noted:

Tim Pool highlighted that the show allowed babies to attend during a show on Wednesday, saying that a member notified him of the event. After some digging, he found the venue’s question and answer page and confirmed that the event is “family-friendly.”

“MusikFest deleted their Babies Allowed Drag Show tweet sponsored by @yuenglingbeer,” Tim Pool tweeted.

Pool shared the link to the original tweet.

“Venue confirms Drag show allows babies, is still happening, they do not know why the tweet was deleted,” Pool added.

There are mixed reactions to Yuengling reportedly being a sponsor of the venue where the drag show will take place.

“Unclear if the beer co. actually sponsored the show, or if they just routinely sponsor the venue, which then promoted the drag show,” one Twitter user commented.

“Yuengling has sponsored the event called Musikfest broadly since 1984,” another Twitter user said.

“Yuengling is a major sponsor of Musikfest every year. Just because there is a drag show there this year doesn’t mean they are pulling a budlight,” another user said.

“Unless Yuengling publicly condemns the venue having a drag show, and actually removes all sponsorship and distribution of it’s product at the event, then they are still sponsoring a drag show,” another user said.

“Yuengling sponsors Musikfest and always has. Any show done during Musikfest is sponsored by Yuengling. Musikfest took it upon themselves to host a drag show, not Yuengling. However, now their name is associated. Ball is in Yuengling’s court,” another user wrote.
