First State to Formally Ban Gain-of-Function Research

Florida is the first state in the United States of America to formally ban gain-of-function research.

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday the state’s move against the diabolical scientific experiments.

“Florida’s leading the way by banning gain-of-function research. The Biden Administration needs to follow our lead and stop wasting tax dollars on these dangerous research practices,” DeSantis tweeted with a video from his press conference.

Gov. DeSantis signed four pieces of legislation that prohibit globalized public health institutions from dictating policy in Florida, allow patients to choose COVID-19 treatment alternatives without hospital interference, provide permanent protections against COVID-19 testing, masking, and inoculations, and ban discrimination by COVID-19 jab status.

The bills signed by the governor also require healthcare practitioners to receive patient consent before prescribing any COVID-19 treatment and safeguards the free speech of doctors.

The landmark legislative package signed today safeguards residents’ freedom by ensuring no patient is forced by a business, school, or government entity to undergo testing, wear a mask, or be vaccinated for COVID-19. The legislation also affords medical professionals the freedom to collaborate with patients in prescribing alternative treatments and protects physicians’ freedom of speech. Lastly, Florida is the first state to ban unsafe and unregulated gain-of-function research, like the research conducted in the Wuhan lab.

“Our early actions during the pandemic protected Floridians and their freedoms,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “We protected the rights of Floridians to make decisions for themselves and their children and rejected COVID theater, narratives, and hysteria in favor of truth and data. These expanded protections will help ensure that medical authoritarianism does not take root in Florida.”

“Governor DeSantis has been a pinnacle for freedom, and today we advance the cause of public health and individual autonomy in medical decisions,” said State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo. “From empowering patients to safeguarding children in schools, Florida continues to enshrine individual liberty and lead with common sense.”

The bills signed include:

Senate Bill 252 – “Most Comprehensive Medical Freedom Bill in the Nation”
House Bill 1387 – “Banning Gain of Function Research”
Senate Bill 1580 – “Physicians Freedom of Speech”
Senate Bill 238 – “Public Records/Protection from Discrimination Based on Health Care Choices”

Governor DeSantis addressed the issue of flawed data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), citing the mask guidance in schools as an example of misguided policies that were broadly embraced. By enacting these new laws, Florida seeks to avoid making the same mistakes and instead prioritize evidence-based decision-making rooted in local data.

Another critical aspect of the legislation is the prevention of discrimination against patients based on their vaccination status. Instances of individuals being denied organ transplants due to vaccine refusal have emerged in other parts of the country. Florida’s new laws aim to protect individuals from such discrimination and ensure equal treatment for all patients.

In addition, the bill formalizes the rejection of guidance from the World Health Organization (W.H.O.). Going forward, any public health advice adopted by Florida must be approved by the state’s own Department of Health, emphasizing the state’s commitment to independent decision-making rather than relying on international organizations.

“We want to be a buffer against flawed guidance, and with the prospect of W.H.O. and its so-called treaty, I think they’re really looking at institutionalized lockdown policies, and that will not happen here,” DeSantis said.

Governor DeSantis also highlighted Senate Bill 1580, which grants physicians the freedom of speech in their practice. This legislation empowers physicians to make decisions based on scientific evidence rather than being bound by mandates, thus promoting evidence-based medicine and allowing doctors to provide the best possible care to their patients.
