While food recalls often grab the headlines, the FDA also regulates medications and, as in one recent case, issues widespread recalls when an issue is identified.
A popular thyroid drug is the latest example, with Major Pharmaceuticals confirming that a batch of its levothyroxine sodium tablets left the factory without the sufficient level of medication.
As The Hill added:
The recall was designated a Class II on July 17, meaning the tablets may cause temporary adverse health consequences, the FDA said.
ADVERTISEMENTMajor Pharmaceuticals packaged and distributed the recalled medication nationwide, and Cardinal Health also distributed some of it.
The recalled tablets were packaged in 10-count blister packs, sold individually or in cartons of 10 packs (100 total), the FDA added.
News of the recall soon began to spread via social media:

NewsNation added these details:
The tablets were available in 25, 50, 75, 88, 112 and 150 microgram amounts with expiration dates ranging from July 2026 to January 2027.
The FDA didn’t disclose the number of tablets recalled but confirmed the recall was initiated July 13.
This announcement came on the heels of a widespread outbreak of foodborne illness, which itself was the latest in a long line of FDA recalls.
