BREAKING: Republican Rep. Cory Mills Under Federal Investigation

Republican Rep. Cory Mills is currently being investigated by the Department of Justice, according to multiple reports.

At this time, it’s unclear why, exactly.

But, this investigation comes amid multiple allegations of financial misconduct, domestic violence, and stolen valor.

MSNOW was the first to report on the investigation:

The Department of Justice is conducting a criminal investigation into Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., according to two sources familiar with the matter, adding to the mounting legal and ethical scrutiny facing the embattled congressman.

The sources didn’t disclose the focus of the DOJ investigation. But a third source told MS NOW at least one person was contacted by the FBI last year about Mills’ finances, allegations of misconduct and individuals in his orbit.

The DOJ investigation comes as Mills stares down an ongoing investigation from the House Ethics Committee, which is looking into allegations that include campaign finance violations, sexual misconduct, accepting improper gifts, financial disclosure violations and the misuse of congressional resources.

The DOJ and FBI declined to comment. When MS NOW contacted Mills on Tuesday to ask if he had any comment on the ongoing investigation, Mills responded via text, “I know nothing about it.”

In a brief phone call, he reiterated that he didn’t know anything about an investigation, saying, “This is the first I’m hearing about it,” but he maintained that it shouldn’t have anything to do with any potential campaign finance violations because the Federal Election Commission had already dropped an investigation into him on those grounds.

“The FEC dismissed all the campaign stuff,” Mills said, guessing that the investigation must be about “all the things stemming from the Ethics investigation.”

Rep. Mills is the subject of a House Ethics Committee investigation into numerous accusations against him.

A few months ago, Rep. Nancy Mace filed to expel Rep. Mills from Congress.

Nick Sortor broke down those allegations and shared Rep. Mills’ response:

JUST IN: Rep. Nancy Mace has filed to EXPEL Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL)

Mace is accusing Mills of:

– beating women and telling them to lie about it
– cyberstalking women
– lying about his military service
– profiting off his seat

Mills DENIES the allegations, telling NewsNation he’s “not in the same category as [Eric] Swalwell and [Tony] Gonzales,” who were forced to resign last week.

On Tuesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was asked to address the allegations against Rep. Cory Mills.

Here’s how he responded:

Rep. Cory Mills himself has denied all wrongdoing.

No matter who they are, individuals are always innocent until proven guilty.

But, if these things are found to be true about Rep. Mills, then he should be held to the same standard as anyone else — regardless of which side of the political aisle he is on.
