She had an unmistakable voice, and her chart-topping hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” has continued to find relevance with every real-life eclipse.

Reports early Thursday revealed Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75.

Here’s what Fox News shared:

Tyler died unexpectedly at a hospital in Portugal, where she had been receiving treatment for an illness, her family announced Thursday.

She had been hospitalized in May for emergency intestinal surgery and was later placed in an induced coma. Her family had said last month that she was no longer in a coma but remained critically ill.

Tributes and condolences soon flooded social media:

Damn… this one hurts.

Bonnie Tyler has died at 75.

There are some voices you hear and immediately know who it is. No introduction. No explanation. One note, and you’re there.

Bonnie had that kind of voice.

Rough around the edges. Powerful as hell. Full of heart. Full of hurt. She didn’t just sing a song… she made you feel every damn word of it.

And maybe that’s why this feels so personal.

Because for so many of us, Bonnie Tyler wasn’t just someone on the radio. Her music was there while we were living our lives.

Falling in love.

Getting our hearts broken.

Driving nowhere in particular.

Growing up.

Growing older.

“It’s a Heartache.”

“Holding Out for a Hero.”

“Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

God, what songs.

And now that voice is gone.

I hate how often we’ve had to say goodbye lately to the people who gave our younger years a soundtrack. Every time another one leaves, it feels like a little piece of our own past goes quiet with them.

Rest easy, Bonnie.

Thank you for the music.

Thank you for the memories.

And thank you for leaving behind a voice this world will never, ever mistake for anyone else.

This one really does hurt.

And Page Six added these details:

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” a spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday.

“We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”
