Mitch McConnell’s Office Releases New Statement on His Health

As you probably know, Sen. Mitch McConnell was rushed to the hospital weeks ago, and we haven’t heard much since then.

Speculation has been swirling online about the 84-year-old Senator’s condition, with many folks questioning if he is even still alive.

Well, today, Sen. McConnell’s office released a new statement to address some of those concerns.

Punchbowl News reporter Andrew Desiderio was the first to share the latest update from Sen. McConnell’s office:

Update from McConnell spox:

“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital. The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

Politico also confirmed the statement:

Sen. Mitch McConnell remains hospitalized, his office said in a statement Thursday — without offering details about a recent medical episode that has renewed concern about the health of the former Republican majority leader.

McConnell “continues his recovery in the hospital” and “continues to improve,” his office said.

“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” the statement said. “The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

The statement did not tell us why Sen. McConnell was admitted to the hospital, in the first place.

However, yesterday, 911 audio revealed that he was found unconscious in his home, potentially from a heart attack.

BREAKING: Mitch McConnell Found Unconscious, Rushed To Hospital

This is a serious situation, and it isn't the first health issue that the elderly McConnell has suffered from in recent years.

NBC News provided some additional background:

McConnell, 84, has faced a slew of health issues in recent years. He was hospitalized for more than a week this year with “flu-like symptoms,” and three years ago he tripped at a Washington dinner, after which he was hospitalized with a concussion.

In 2019, he fractured a shoulder when he fell at home.

McConnell raised eyebrows when he froze on camera multiple times in 2023, seemingly unable to answer reporters’ questions immediately.

McConnell, who was first elected in 1984, was the Senate Republican leader from 2007 to 2025, making him the chamber’s longest-serving party leader.

Please pray for the Senator to recover fully. It's sad whenever someone suffers from a serious health issue like this.

Notably, Sen. McConnell is retiring and will not seek re-election this year.

However, at this point, it is remains unclear if he will even be able to finish serving out this term.

He has already missed over 20 roll call votes since he was hospitalized, with no clear sign of when or if he will be able to return to Capitol Hill.

American voters deserve complete and total transparency when their elected representative is absent like this.
