President Trump UNLOADS On Italian PM Giorgia Meloni as Feud Escalates

President Trump just hit back at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after she became offended and raged against him in a video message on Friday.

In a clip that PM Meloni uploaded to social media, she accused President Trump of lying about her “begging” him for a photo during the G7 summit.

We covered that original story in more detail here:

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni FUMES at President Trump Over “Completely Made Up” G7 Claim

President Trump didn’t let Meloni’s accusations slide…

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump doubled down on his claim that Meloni asked him “over and over” for a photo.

He then went on to blast Meloni (and all of NATO) for failing to help the United States in the Iran war.

Read his full post here:

In case that’s hard to read, here’s the full text:

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asked, over and over, for a picture with me during the G-7 meeting in France. She is doing poorly in Italy with her level of popularity, possibly because she turned down the United States of America, a Country that truly loves and protects Italy, when it came to denying Iran from obtaining or developing a Nuclear Weapon (But so did NATO, for that matter!). She wouldn’t even let us use Italy’s landing strips or runways, a great logistical inconvenience, and this despite the fact the U.S. contributes hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year to protect Italy, and other “so-called” NATO Allies. Now, after the United States defeated Iran militarily, she wants to be friends again in order to get her “numbers up.” No thanks!!! President DJT

President Trump’s criticism is completely justified.

The fact is that Italy turned their back on the U.S. when we needed their support the most — yet, they are completely happy to take billions of dollars from our country, as long as they never have to be inconvenienced.

AP provided some additional context on the strained relationship between the U.S. and Italy:

In his post, Trump also complained that Meloni would not allow the U.S. to use Italy’s landing strips or runways during the Iran war even though the U.S. is a leader in defense spending among NATO allies. That is a long-standing complaint about the military alliance and one that Trump raised before his White House meeting Wednesday with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and the NATO summit in Turkey next month.

Italy, a key logistics hub for the U.S., declined in March to allow American bombers headed for the Middle East to use a base in Sicily without parliamentary approval. It was a decision reflecting constitutional constraints and strong domestic opposition to the war. Meloni has insisted that any use of Italian bases for offensive operations would require parliamentary backing.

Trump vented his frustration about Meloni and on Saturday claimed that she “wants to be friends again” in light of the initial deal between the U.S. and Iran to end the war.

Now that the Iran war is coming to an end — no thanks to NATO — Meloni wants to be buddies with President Trump again.

He’s no fool, and he sees exactly what is going on.

This isn’t just about a photo op.

The real reason Meloni is so mad is because President Trump sees through her sleazy attempts to suck up to the U.S. when it’s convenient and betray us when it’s not.

But, Giorgia Meloni apparently doesn’t know when to quit.

The Italian PM was quick to escalate the feud further, issuing this reply to President Trump:

Italy’s Meloni responds to Trump:

President Trump, these constant, unprovoked attacks are senseless. As for my popularity, being your friend certainly has not helped it, nor does it depend on my relationship with you.

My popularity depends on my ability to defend Italy’s national interest, and that is exactly what I have always done. That is also what I did regarding the American military bases in Italy. Their use is governed by agreements that we have always respected, and that cannot be violated as long as I am Prime Minister.

Italy remains a sovereign nation. In any case, my popularity is none of your concern. I suggest you focus on yours.

The Trump-Meloni feud is highlighting growing tension between U.S. and NATO relations.

In light of this spat, many folks are calling for Trump to get us out of NATO altogether.
