President Trump Offers Co-Endorsement In GOP Gubernatorial Primary Runoff

President Trump on Friday endorsed both candidates in South Carolina’s GOP gubernatorial primary runoff on June 23.

Trump had endorsed Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette last month in the primary election, but also gave his endorsement to Attorney General Alan Wilson heading into the runoff.

“I love the Wonderful State of South Carolina for every reason in the book, including the fact that it is ‘loaded up’ with truly GREAT people and Political Leaders. There are two Highly Respected Candidates running to be your next Governor in the June 23rd Republican Runoff Election, your current Lieutenant Governor, Pam Evette, and your current Attorney General, Alan Wilson,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Both have had amazing careers, and have been with me from the beginning. They are MAGA and America First all the way! These were the two that I was hoping would get into a Runoff, and they did. I can’t hurt one of them by only Endorsing the other, so, therefore, I am going to Endorse, for Governor of South Carolina, both Pam Evette and Alan Wilson! It’s a Wealth of Riches – With either one you can’t go wrong. Vote for Pam or Alan — They will not let you down!” he added.

Evette finished in first place in the June 9 primary, which went to a runoff after no candidate in the crowded field won majority support. But she earned less than 30% of the vote and ran only 3 points ahead of Wilson, despite securing Trump’s coveted endorsement.

In the days since the primary, Wilson also picked up endorsements from two former opponents in the race, Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman. And shortly after Trump’s announcement, Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., also publicly endorsed Wilson.

Wilson said on social media that he was “honored” to have Trump’s endorsement, highlighting his efforts to defend the administration’s agenda as South Carolina attorney general.

“President Trump has fought harder than anyone to secure our border, restore American strength, drain the swamp, protect our freedoms, and put working families first. As South Carolina’s Attorney General, I have been proud to stand with him in that fight. I defended President Trump’s executive orders. I backed his America First cabinet,” Wilson said.

“I fought back against the Left’s lawfare and political prosecutions. I defended election integrity. I took the Biden Administration to court when they tried to force their woke, unconstitutional agenda on South Carolina. And I never backed down,” he continued.

“When President Trump needed fighters, I was in the fight. Now, I am running for Governor to keep South Carolina strong, conservative, and free. Thank you, President Trump. I am grateful for your support and I am ready to keep fighting for South Carolina,” he added.

“I was proud to come in first as President @realDonaldTrump’s endorsed candidate for Governor on June 9th. Looking forward to doing it again on June 23rd. Get out and vote on Tuesday, and let’s Keep South Carolina Winning!” Evette said.

South Carolina Public Radio shared further:

Trump’s endorsement came a day after the end of a two-day early voting period in which some 72,500 people cast a ballot. The same Thursday that early voting ended, Evette released a video to social media platforms with a list of nine potential lieutenant governor running mates. In that video, Evette said voting for her would be a victory for the president.

“Together, we can deliver a big win for President Trump and for our state,” she said in a 7 p.m. Thursday video.

Evette had touted the endorsement as a key part of her campaigning and messaging to voters. Now, Trump will be able to claim a victory no matter which candidate wins the nomination.
