President Trump Calls for John Thune to FIRE Senate Parliamentarian to Pass SAVE Act

President Trump is now calling on Senate Leader John Thune to fire Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough in order to get the SAVE America Act passed.

In a Truth Social post, President Trump called MacDonough a “nasty holdover” from Mitch McConnell who “caters to Democrats.”

MacDonough was originally hired by Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid in 2012 — under the Obama administration!

RINO Sen. McConnell kept her on. And, ever since President Trump took office, she has repeatedly ruled against the MAGA agenda.

Now, in a long overdue move, President Trump is calling for her to finally be replaced.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune should immediately fire the Parliamentarian, who treats Republicans, and everything that they stand for, horribly! She was put there by then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Barack Hussein Obama, need I say more? She is a nasty holdover from Mitch McConnell (A man who has proven to be very disloyal to John Thune!), who decided to keep her because he loved giving Trillions of Dollars to the Democrats, but for the Republicans, including the Wall, where I ended up having to go “around him” to build over 1,000 Miles, and close up our Open Border, he gave NOTHING! She is known as a Radical Left Lunatic that caters to Democrats, and has no respect for Republicans, or Republican Ideology. Just the other night, as an example, she ruled against us on a proposal that would have easily been approved, and should have been, by anyone else. President Trump’s call to axe MacDonough comes after she struck down an attempt to bypass the filibuster to pass the SAVE Act.

The Hill reported:

The parliamentarian ruled that the SAVE America Act did not comply with the Senate’s Byrd Rule, which determines what legislation is eligible to be included in a budget reconciliation package that can pass with a simple-majority vote, thereby avoiding a filibuster and 60-vote threshold.

As a result, Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) — two Trump allies — had to ask for 60 votes to waive the budgetary objections in order to consider their proposals to amend the budget reconciliation package with the SAVE America Act.

Both motions fell well short of sixty votes.

In addition to throwing a wrench into the passage of the SAVE Act, she recently struck down funding for President Trump’s White House ballroom.

Last year, she also got in the way of the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill.

The Washington Times provided more background on her contentious record:

Last month, Ms. MacDonough ruled against the $1 billion in security funding for Mr. Trump’s White House ballroom, finding it violated the Byrd Rule because it fell outside the Judiciary Committee’s jurisdiction.

Senate Republicans have had a contentious relationship with Ms. MacDonough, who, during the upper chamber’s consideration of Mr. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act in June 2025, struck down nearly 50 provisions that violated the Byrd Rule, which bars non-budgetary items from reconciliation bills.

Her rulings knocked out major Medicaid restrictions, immigration enforcement provisions, a measure to gut the CFPB, gun control measures and a civil service pay provision, forcing Republicans to either rewrite or drop them.

At the time, Republicans such as Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Rep. Greg Steube of Florida called for her firing. Mr. Thune held firm, and the bill ultimately passed in July 2025, with language reworked to meet her requirements.

However, Sen. Thune has already dismissed the idea of firing her.
