President Trump has responded to Iran cutting off communications with diplomats from the United States.
As WLT Report covered on Monday morning, Iran has suspended all talks with the United States as the two countries were in the middle of negotiating a peace deal.
Iranian officials have cited Israel’s recent military strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon as a factor in the suspension of peace talks.
Now, President Trump has reacted to the news and appeared to downplay it.
CNN reported more on Trump’s response to Iran:
President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran hasn’t yet informed the US it is cutting off talks, but suggested he had no problem waiting out Tehran until it agrees to an acceptable deal.
“I think we’ve been talking too much, if you want to know the truth. I think going silent would be very good,” he told NBC News in a phone interview.
He said the development did not mean the US would restart full-scale military operations.
“It doesn’t mean we’re going to go and start dropping bombs all over there,” he told NBC. “We’ll just go silent. We’ll keep the blockade. Blockade is a piece of steel.”
Trump, who has insisted he feels no pressure to reach a deal quickly, maintained he had leverage over Tehran.
“I think I can wait as long as they want,” he said.

Now, just a few hours after his initial response to Iran cutting off talks with the United States, Trump has signaled that the peace talks are continuing.
Trump, in a post on Truth Social, wrote, “Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

NBC News reported more on the peace talks:
On Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and representatives from Hezbollah. He said that no troops would go to Beirut.
“I had a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back,” he wrote. “Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.
A few minutes later, Trump claimed on Truth Social without evidence, “Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Trump earlier told NBC News he had not been informed of the decision to suspend negotiations ahead of time but that “I think it’s fine if they’re done talking.”
ADVERTISEMENT“It’s an appropriate thing to say, because they’re better negotiators than they are fighters,” he said in a brief phone call. “But they haven’t informed us of that.”
