Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara is calling it quits.
Basically, he was forced to resign from his position after interfering with a probe into his conduct, which centered around allegations that O’Hara had sexual relationships with city employees.
These claims were not found to be substantiated. However, O’Hara’s interference with the investigation was enough to essentially get him fired.
Here are the details:

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara resigned after investigators found he intentionally deleted a contact from his city phone and tipped off a colleague about the probe — actions Mayor Frey called a ‘breach of trust’ that left him no choice but to push O’Hara out.
The original investigation into anonymous allegations of sexually intimate relationships with city employees found those claims unsubstantiated. But the cover-up attempt itself ended O’Hara’s tenure leading a department still working to rebuild its credibility.
Mayor Jacob Frey, who appointed O’Hara to lead reforms at the police department after the death of drug addict George Floyd, announced the chief’s resignation on Tuesday.
The New York Post reported:
The mayor told O’Hara he would be disciplined, which could include his termination. He chose to resign instead, Frey said.
“It was an extremely painful decision, obviously, but I concluded that that was necessary to maintain public trust, and this was the right way to move forward as a city,” Frey said.
“Trust is not secondary to the job. It is the job,” he added.
The city still has 17 open complaints against O’Hara — separate from the investigation that resulted in disciplinary action — and will continue investigating, mayor’s office spokesperson Jennifer Lor said. Lor could not comment on the nature of those complaints.
O’Hara did not immediately respond to a LinkedIn message seeking comment.
ADVERTISEMENTO’Hara became the chief in 2022 as the department was at the center of a nationwide reckoning over racism and brutality in policing. Two years prior, Floyd, a Black man, was killed by a white officer in Minneapolis, igniting global Black Lives Matter protests and calls to defund the police.
You might remember O’Hara best for his controversial statements on ICE agents earlier this year.
Amid all the conflict between rioters and federal agents in Minnesota, O’Hara ordered officers to “intervene” with ICE agents.
Flashback to this:
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says that Somalians should call 911 if ICE shows up wearing masks to make arrests.
He says police will "immediately respond" and "intervene."

After federal agents shot and killed leftist rioter Alex Pretti in self-defense, O’Hara also argued that is didn’t matter whether or not the shooting was justified because people were really mad.
Not something you want to hear from someone whose entire job it is up to uphold the law!
For reference, here’s that clip:
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara: "Even if there is an investigation that ultimately proves that at the time of the shooting it was legally justified, I don't even think that matters at this point because people are angry at ICE."

Good riddance!
Unfortunately, Mayor Frey has already replaced O’Hara with someone who might be even worse — a liberal woman named Katie Blackwell who testified against Derek Chauvin in the George Floyd trial.
CBS News provided more details on her background:
In 2023, O’Hara appointed Blackwell to the assistant chief of operations role amid a mass restructuring of the police department.
Before that, Blackwell was an inspector at the 5th Precinct and led training for the department. She has spent more than 20 years with the Minneapolis Police Department.
In 2021, she testified during Derek Chauvin’s murder trial. After viewing a photo of Chauvin with his knee on George Floyd’s neck, she said, “I don’t know what kind of improvised position that is, so that’s not what we train.”
She again testified in 2022 during the federal civil rights trial of Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane, saying that the actions of the three former officers were “inconsistent” with the department’s policy on duty to intervene.
