WATCH: Cornyn Campaign Rocked By Unearthed Video Showing His True Thoughts On Amnesty

While Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) has been attempting to ride President Donald Trump’s coattails to another term on Capitol Hill, many of his conservative critics insist his actual views on many crucial policies are totally misaligned with the Trump administration and the GOP base.

Immigration, in particular, has become a hot-button issue in the campaign, and a recently unearthed video has fueled new speculation that the incumbent senator’s views are more at home with the open-borders left than the MAGA right:

The video has fueled additional backlash against Cornyn, whose record has been roundly denounced by his Republican rival, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

As the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported:

Paxton was a speaker at a Thursday Grapevine Republican Club meeting ahead of the May 26 election. During the event, the attorney general told a crowd of a few dozen people that he rarely sees Cornyn while on the campaign trail and that the senator doesn’t go to GOP meetings to speak with voters.

“I saw him when President Trump came to Corpus,” Paxton said. “This whole pretend thing where he’s a Trump guy, which is all fake.”

Paxton posed a question to attendees: “What does he do?”

“He spends his time in D.C. — he pretty much lives in D.C.,” Paxton said.

Cornyn campaign senior adviser Matt Mackowiak said the senator has consistently voted with Trump and will have at least 25 campaign events over the next 30 days.

With the primary election about a month away, the partisan rhetoric surrounding this race has been heating up lately.

The latest unearthed video has only added fuel to the fire:

As Politico reported, however, Cornyn does maintain one clear advantage over Paxton:

Cornyn ended the first quarter of the year with more than $8 million in cash on hand, compared with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s $2.6 million in the bank, according to disclosures filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The Cornyn-Paxton face-off has grown nasty and highly personal as Republicans grow uneasy about beating James Talarico, the Democratic Senate nominee who raised an extraordinary $27 million last quarter and has about $9.9 million cash on hand. President Donald Trump has so far declined to endorse in the race, despite teasing a pick for several weeks.

Here’s a recent report on the polling ahead of the May election:

How does that sound?
