U.S. Senator Flies to Barcelona, Joins Alex Soros to Attack President Trump on Foreign Soil

A sitting United States senator just flew overseas and publicly trashed President Trump on foreign soil, calling him part of the “forces of fascism” and declaring that America faces “the most significant threat to American democracy since the Civil War.”

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) traveled to Barcelona, Spain this week to attend a summit called “In Defense of Democracy,” organized in part by Alex Soros and the Open Society Foundations. Rather than representing the interests of his Connecticut constituents back home, Murphy chose to stand on a stage in Europe and attack the duly elected President of the United States.

Murphy posted about his trip on X, framing it as an effort to “unite progressive parties from around the world” against what he called “the forces of fascism.”

Let that sink in for a moment. A United States senator flew to Spain to join a Soros-backed summit and used the platform to call the sitting president a fascist. Murphy told the international audience that Trump “is trying to end our democracy” and “is trying to seize control of our courts, of our law enforcement, of our media, of our elections.”

He went even further, claiming Trump’s “goal is oligarchic capture” and grouping the President alongside Hungary’s Viktor Orban, France’s Marine Le Pen, and Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro. Murphy declared these leaders “learn from each other” and “copy one another’s tactics of democratic destruction.”

Breitbart reported that Murphy also called the current White House “the most corrupt” in U.S. history while standing on European soil:

“Want to bring you greetings as well from a nation that is in crisis. This is the most significant threat to American democracy since the Civil War.”

The backlash was immediate. Conservative commentator Eric Daugherty blasted Murphy and demanded his resignation, writing “RESIGN, CHRIS MURPHY!” after sharing the clip of the senator’s overseas remarks.

The Soros connection makes this trip even more troubling. Alex Soros, the son of billionaire George Soros and current chairman of the Open Society Foundations, helped organize the Barcelona summit. The elder Soros has spent billions funding progressive causes and political campaigns around the world, and his son has taken an increasingly active role in those efforts.

Murphy’s decision to partner with the Soros network to publicly attack an American president abroad drew sharp condemnation from the Republican National Committee as well.

The Gateway Pundit called the display an “utter disgrace,” noting that Murphy chose foreign soil as his stage to undermine a sitting president:

Murphy told the audience that right-wing movements “learn from each other” and “copy one another’s tactics of democratic destruction,” grouping President Trump with foreign leaders like Viktor Orban and Marine Le Pen.

There was a time in American politics when disagreements stopped at the water’s edge. Regardless of party, elected officials understood that you do not go overseas and attack your own president in front of foreign audiences. Sen. Murphy apparently missed that memo.

Instead of working on behalf of the people of Connecticut, Murphy flew to Barcelona on a Soros-funded junket to trash-talk the commander-in-chief. His constituents deserve to know why their senator thinks cozying up to Alex Soros in Spain is more important than doing his job back home.
