DEVELOPING: Iran, United States Discussing Potential Ceasefire, Report Claims

According to Axios, Iran, the United States, and a group of regional mediators are discussing the terms of a possible 45-day ceasefire.

The potential ceasefire could lead to the conclusion of the war, the outlet stated.

Axios cited four U.S., Israeli, and regional sources in its report.

“Sources said the chances for a deal in the next 48 hours are slim. But this last-ditch effort is the only chance to prevent a dramatic war escalation,” the outlet wrote.

Axios shared further:

President Trump’s 10-day deadline to Iran was expected to expire Monday evening. But on Sunday, Trump extended his deadline by 20 hours and posted on Truth Social a new deadline of Tuesday at 8pm ET.

Trump told Axios on Sunday that the U.S. is “in deep negotiations” with Iran and that a deal can be reached before his deadline expires on Tuesday.

“There is a good chance, but if they don’t make a deal, I am blowing up everything over there,” he said.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F***in’ Strait, you crazy b******s, or you’ll be living in H*** – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” Trump warned on Sunday.

The talks focused on the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s uranium stockpile, The Jerusalem Post noted.

“Talks are taking place through Pakistani, Egyptian, and Turkish mediators,” the outlet stated.

More from The Jerusalem Post:

Mediators are also working on measures the US could take to address some of Iran’s demands.

Iranian mediators have made clear that they do not want a Gaza or Lebanon situation “where there is a ceasefire on paper but where the US and Israel can attack again whenever they want to,” Axios wrote.

Mediators have urged Iranian officials not to delay any further, stressing that the next 48 hours are the last opportunity for them to reach a deal.
