Vice President JD Vance Just Made History

Vice President JD Vance has just made history.

JD Vance has just done something no other Vice President or President of the United States has ever done.

And that is making an official diplomatic visit to the country of Armenia.

On Monday, Vance, alongside Second Lady Usha Vance, visited Armenia to meet with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to discuss trade deals.

ABC News reported more on Vance’s historic visit:

Vice President JD Vance landed in Armenia on Monday — a country that no sitting U.S. vice president or president has visited before — as the Trump administration looks to advance a U.S.-brokered deal aimed at ending a decades-long conflict with Azerbaijan.

The vice president and his wife, Usha, were greeted with a red carpet, an honor guard and a delegation of officials. Armenian and American flags hung from poles from as the delegation drove to the vice president’s meeting, with some demonstrators on the side of the road, including one with a sign that said, “Does Trump support Devils?”

Vance is meeting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who signed a deal at the White House in August intended to reopen key transportation routes with Azerbaijan. At that meeting, the countries signed agreements reaffirming their commitment to signing a peace treaty. The text of the treaty was initialed by foreign ministers, which indicates preliminary approval. But the leaders have yet to sign the treaty and parliaments have yet to ratify it.

Vance arrived in Yerevan after spending four days in Milan at the Winter Olympics with his family, and plans to travel to Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are both on President Donald Trump’s new Board of Peace. The group was originally envisioned to oversee the Gaza ceasefire plan, but has since expanded in size and ambition. Trump plans to convene the first meeting of the board in Washington this month.

Vance has been busy traveling the last week.

AP reported that before his trip to Armenia, he visited Italy to support the U.S. athletes participating in the Winter Olympics:

U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived in Milan with his family Thursday, telling U.S. athletes competing in the Milan Cortina Winter Games that the competition “is one of the few things that unites the entire country” before taking his family to see a hockey game.

It’s the first stop for Vance on a trip combining diplomacy and sports. He is leading U.S. President Donald Trump’s delegation to the 2026 Winter Olympics and later stopping in Armenia and Azerbaijan in a show of support for a peace agreement brokered by the White House last year.

Vance stood to applaud goals scored by the U.S. women’s hockey team, which beat the Czech Republic 5-1 in the preliminary round game at the Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena.

The vice president earlier told athletes the trip is a highlight of his time in office. “The whole country — Democrat, Republican, independent — we’re all rooting for you and we’re cheering for you,” Vance said.
