President Trump To Norway: “I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of peace…”

President Trump just sent an absolutely ICONIC letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, that will go down in history.

And I’m not exaggerating when I say that.

The message has been referred to as a “letter” and stylized on letterhead but in reality it was a text message.

Still, the content is accurate and has been confirmed true by many sources.

From Grok:

Yes, the content of the message shared in that X post has been confirmed as authentic by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre’s office, the White House, and multiple officials who provided it to journalists.

Communication Details

However, it was sent as a text message (SMS) from President Trump to Støre on January 18, 2026—not a formal letter on stationery as depicted in the image. The phrasing in the post’s image matches the confirmed text verbatim, including the references to:

  • The Nobel Peace Prize snub

  • Denmark’s claims on Greenland lacking “formal documents”

  • The need for U.S. “Complete and Total Control” of Greenland

Reporting and Verification

It was first reported by PBS correspondent Nick Schifrin, who obtained it from multiple sources, and the National Security Council circulated it to European ambassadors in Washington.

Official Responses

  • Prime Minister Støre: Responded publicly, reaffirming Norway’s position that Greenland is Danish territory and expressing concern over the tone.

  • White House Official: Verified it, stating Trump views Greenland as strategically vital for U.S. national security against threats from Russia and China.

FULL TEXT:

Dear Jonas:

Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.

Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also.

I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States.

The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.

Thank you!
President DJT

Absolutely incredible!

Reuters has focused on the linkage between the Nobel Prize and the U.S. desire for Greenland:

U.S. President Donald Trump has linked his drive to take control of Greenland to his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he no longer thought “purely of Peace” as the row over the island threatened to reignite a trade war with Europe.

Trump declined to tell NBC News in an interview whether he would use force to seize Greenland. He did reiterate his threat to hit European nations with tariffs if a deal is not reached.

Trump has intensified his push to wrest sovereignty over Greenland from fellow NATO member Denmark, prompting the European Union to weigh hitting back with its own measures.

The dispute threatens to upend the NATO alliance that has underpinned Western security for decades and which was already under strain over the war in Ukraine and Trump’s refusal to protect allies unless they increase defence spending.

Trump’s threat has rattled European industry and sent shockwaves through financial markets. Investors fear a return to the volatility of 2025’s trade war, which only eased when the sides reached tariff deals in the middle of the year.

In a text message on Sunday to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere, Trump said: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.”
Norway’s government released the messages on Monday.

Meanwhile, President Trump also just posted this:

Even President Putin, who no doubt is pushing his own interests with these comments, confirms this is nothing new…

The US has been interested in Greenland since the 1800s.

On that point, he’s right:
