At Least One Fatality After Fire Erupts At Home Of NASCAR Star’s Parents

At least one individual has died, and another sustained life-threatening injuries, after a fire at the home of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s parents in North Carolina.

“The fire happened at a home on Blacksnake Road, northeast of Stanley, around 6 p.m. on Sunday,” WCNC stated.

On Monday, Gaston County EMS confirmed that one person died from injuries suffered in the fire. The victim has not been identified.

The fire resulted in the complete loss of the home, according to the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department. It took around two hours to put out the fire due to a lack of water in the area.

Gaston County officials said the investigation will continue well into Monday.

Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department Chief David Toomey stated that the home belongs to the parents of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.

A public records search shows the home is owned by a company managed by Hamlin.

Hamlin has not commented on the situation.

The NASCAR world was rocked by another tragedy earlier this month with the plane crash that killed driver Greg Biffle and his family.

"Today the motorsports world lost one of its fiercest competitors and kindest souls. Greg Biffle was a champion on the track and a humanitarian off it, whose impact reached far beyond racing. We also mourn the loss of his wife Cristina and children Emma & Ryder, along with Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton, and his son Jack. My heart is with all their families and loved ones," Hamlin said.

More from the New York Post:

Nearly a dozen different departments responded to the fire as Stanley does not have fire hydrants.

Toomey said 40- 45 percent of the home was already burning by the time fire crews arrived.

“They had some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff, so all that was saved,” Toomey told The Athletic at the scene. “We were able to save all that and get it out so it wasn’t damaged.”

Hamlin co-owns the 23XI Racing NASCAR team with NBA legend Michael Jordan.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
